LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT March 28, 2000 Beverly Farms Branch Library - Fund raising continues for the Faxms renovation project. RFP's for landscape architects have been returned. The Farms Project Committee is reviewing the submittals by three landscape architects and will schedule interviews with the three firms. The Fund Raising Committee has received a grant of $50,000 over three yeas from the Rantout Foundation. Dawn Goodwin, Community Development Administrator, has suggested we apply for Community Development Block Grant program for the cost of the elevator, which would amount to about $65,000. If we can get the CDBG money, that would put us at $715,000 in pledged funds. Mayor ScanIon has also included the City' s matching $1,500,000 into the City Capital Plan for Fiscal 2002. This is not a guarantee of the tOohey as we would still have to convince the Mayor and City Council to vote the funds at the appropriate time, but the project is now officially on the capital improvements list. Sheila Glowacki - Sheila. who was formerly our Assistant L~"orary Director and now is a pan-time Reference Librarian, is returning to her home town and taking a job in the Youngstown (Ohio) Public Library. Sheila was interim Director after the death of my predecessor, Esther Calish and she and I collaborated on the construction grant that funded the Main Library renovation project. Most recently she has been Director of the Topsfield Public Library. Technology - The staff is becoming more acclimated to our new catalog and circulation sot~vare. We will soon be training on a upgraded version of that software which will offer some new features. Although we have more than doubled the number of public Internet terminals there are still lines. We have also given 4 more staff members computers on their desks. Virtually every full time staff member has their own PC at their desk. We will also be working on projects to expand the information from our on-line catalog with direct links from school reading and assignment lists to the catalog.
