John Young presided.
Neil Olson made the motion, seconded by Kevin O’Reilly, to accept the minutes of June 27, 2000
as read. Motion passed.
Public Presentation
John Young suggested that this would be a good place for the trustees to bring up any comments
that they have received from the public.
John Young reported on a conversation he had with a North Beverly resident who was excited to
learn from John about our long range plans for library service to Beverly’s neighborhoods and the
current delivery service we provide to the public schools.
Committee Reports
Personnel: Lindsay Diehl distributed copies of Library Director’s evaluation for FY99/00. At a
later date Lindsay will discuss improvements to this process. John Young will set up a meeting
with Tom Scully and Lindsay Diehl to review the evaluation.
Administration: No report.
Finance: No report.
Long Range Planning: Long Range Planning meeting: Tuesday, October 24 at 6:00 P.M. to
review past year’s activities and next year’s goals.
Report of the Library Director
1. Copies of the Director’s report (on file with these minutes) were mailed to Trustees. 2. Farms
Fundraising Event: September 9 event raised $23,000. The Mayor reiterated his commitment to
ask the City Council to fund $1.5 million for the Farms Library project. 3. State Aid: Tom Scully
distributed second part of state aid report. 4. Summer Hours: MBLC is considering a change in
the statutes of summer hours for Massachusetts public libraries. This will not directly affect us
because we are open six days in the summer.

New Business
1. Book Sale: Saturday, November 18 9-5 and Sunday, November 19 1-4.
The next regular meeting of the Board will be Tuesday, October 24, 2000 at 7:00 P.M. at the
Main Library. This will be preceded by a meeting of the Long Range Planning Committee at 6:00
P.M.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:35 P.M.
LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT
September 26, 2000
Beverly Farms Library
- The Farms Library Building Committee held a lawn party on Sept. 9 for
the building campaign. The 300 tickets sold out several days early. The event was a tremendous
success and raised about $23,000 for the building fund. The Building Fund now stands at slightly over
$800,000 in gifts, pledges and grants. As soon as the site survey and subsurface investigations are
done, the landscape architect will prepare the landscape schematic.
Summer Activities
- The library had another busy summer. Three hundred and twenty six children
participated in the Childrens Reading Program at the Main Library and 57 children at the Farms
Branch. Over 3600 books were loaned from the school summer reading list. Our annual summer train
trip to Rockport for a day of story telling including over 150 Beverly residents. Forty nine adults
completed reading at least 10 books for the adult summer reading program.
