Lindsay Diehl gave out copies of “Evaluating the Director” received from the Massachusetts
Board of Library Commissioners. Copies of several sample evaluations were also distributed.
After reviewing the material, the group highlighted the ideas they found most useful. The group
then generated a list of the characteristics they considered most important for the format of an
evaluation. They then generated a list of the factors most important regarding content.
Lindsay Diehl agreed to make copies of all the sample evaluations for each group member and
send them out with copies of the lists generated. Each member will review the samples noting
those questions/topics/styles which seem most useful. The group will meet in February to discuss
these ideas and begin to generate an outline for an evaluation form to be used at our library. This
form will be presented to the full Board, with an outline of our methodology, for comment.
The Sub-Committee will then continue to meet and revise the form until the full Board reaches
consensus and votes to adopt the form.
