Personnel Committee Meeting
Board of Trustees - Beverly Public Library
March 13, 1996 6:00 P.M.

Also Present:
Neil Olson, Chair, Nancy Bender, Edward Brindle, Helga Senko.
Thomas Scully, Anna Langstaff
Neil Olson presided.
Some city councilors have stated that they will not consider granting management pay raises for
any city department head unless a job evaluation process is in place. In order to address this issue
Neil Olson formulated a proposed library professional evaluation form (on file with these
minutes). Copies were distributed.
After some discussion a few revisions were made. Neil Olson agreed to draft a cover letter
outlining certain procedural items that would accompany the evaluation form.
There was a discussion on how to proceed. A question was raised whether the personnel
committee or the full Board should conduct the evaluation. It was agreed that this evaluation
process did not set a precedent, but that, because of time constraints, it is important to set up a
process for this year. It was agreed that Tom Scully would evaluate the Assistant Director.
Nancy Bender made the motion, seconded by Neil Olson, to:
1. recommend to the full Board the revised evaluation form as discussed; 2. mail
evaluation form with an accompanying cover letter explaining what is being done;
3. ask Board members, in the interest of expediting this year's evaluation, to fill out
and bring completed evaluation form to the next full Board meeting. Motion
passed.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:00 P.M.
Anna Langstaff, Recorder
