Present: Nancy White, Neil Olson, Kay Fanning, Esther Calish. Mrs. Calish distributed the attached job descriptions for Assistant Director and Children's Services Librarian. The Personnel Committee recommends that the Board of Trustees request permission from the mayor and Board of Aldermen to fill the positions of Assistant Director and Children's Services Librarian. The Personnel Committee recommends that the Board of Trustees request permission for a transfer of funds totaling $1,000.00 from the following salary accounts to the advertising account: $500.00 from the Department Heads account $500.00 from the Assistant Director account Assistant Director Ouali~cations: ALA acered. M.L.S.; minimum 7 Years professional and supervisory experience. Duties include supervision of staff and dally library routine; reference desk service; special needs services; grant writing. Salary: $421.02 - $457.50 per week in 4 steps 75% BC/B S; 20 days per. yr. vacation at~er first year, S/L 20 days pr. yr, accumulates 2 days per mo. after first 2 mos., 6 months probationary period 35 hour work week Duties & Responsibilities of Assistant Director 1 ) Supervises daily routine of library operations and personnel, 2) Staff scheduling 3) Assists Director in preparation of budget and monitoring of budget 4) Compiles statistics, prepares Library Incentive Grant report and other reports 5) Directs library operation in absence of Director 6) Participates in Reference Service and readers' guidance. Reference desk service approx. 15 hrs. per week 7) Assists Director in planning and evaluation of projects by gathering information, researching and presenting information 8) Takes minutes at Trustees' meetings 9) Assists Director in pre-screening and interviewing staff 10) Assists in evaluating departmental functions, collection development, public and technical services 11) Explores opportunities for grants and prepares and writes grant applications 12) Participates in activities of professional associations. Attends institutes and workshops and reports m fellow staff members 13) Makes presentations to community organizations 14) Responsible for special needs services to deaf and visually handicapped 15) Prepares payroll when administrative assistant is absent 16) Selects and orders periodicals 17) Coordinates volunteers Children's Services Librarian Community of 38,000 seeks enthusiastic creative children's librarian, Requires ALA accredited M.L.S. and 3 years experience with children. Duties include but are not limited to: 1 ) Selection of ehildrens print and non-print material 2) Planning and implementation of programs such as story-times, films, eraIts, cultural programs, reading clubs 3) Work with Friends group of volunteers 4) Education of parents in children's literature through presentations, bibliographies, displays, ete 5) Organization of collection and maintenance of children's card catalog 6) Supervision of staff (1 full-time, 2 or 3 part-time) through class orientations 7) Cooperation with public and private schools from pre-school through Grade 5 8) Creation of bibliographies, reading lists, promotional materials 9) Development of microcomputer program for patrons' use Benefits: 75% BC/BS; 2 weeks vacation to start; 15 days SL; 2 personal days.
