2003-10-21City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Administration Date: Tuesday, October 21, 2003 6:30 P.M. Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Kevin O’Reilly, Joanne Panunzio, Helga Senko, and John Young Board members absent: Others present: Thomas Scully, Anna Langstaff Recorder: Anna Langstaff Kevin O’Reilly presided. The administration committee discussed the art donation policy and the art exhibit policy. Art Exhibit Policy: The administration committee would like to revise the art exhibit policy in the following manner: 1. Put the decision about whether or not something has merit in the hands of the Library Director or Assistant Director. 2. Should something be deemed controversial or potentially controversial it will go before the art advisory committee for review. 3. If a member of the public wishes to object to an exhibit, they must file a written complaint form that will be presented to the art advisory committee. 4. If an artist does not agree with the decision of the Library Director or Assistant Director, they can file an appeal to the art advisory committee. 5. The art advisory committee will be made up of approximately 3 members. Based on the art exhibit policy discussion, Tom Scully will draft a new exhibit policy. Art Donation Policy: Tom Scully explained that there can be some problems with accepting art work donations. The administration committee would like to revise the art donation policy in the following manner: 1. The Library may accept donations at the discretion of the Library Director or Assistant Library Director. 2. The Library will not accept donations under any circumstances with conditions. Based on the art donation policy discussion, Tom Scully will draft a new policy for gifts of objects and works of art with the intent that acceptance is up to the discretion of the Library Director and Assistant Director who will then bring it to the trustees. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:00 P.M.
