Also attending were Thomas Scanlan and Joseph W. Walsh, Jr.
The meeting was called to discuss Mayor Grimes' proposal that in the future the owner(s) of animals
responsible for biting people be brought to the Inspector of Animals Office rather than, as done in the
past, having the Inspector go to the individual houses. Also, there shall be specific hours set for the
owners to bring the animals to be examined and these hours are as follows:
Monday
Tuesday
Thursday
Friday
Saturday
1:00 - 2:30 p.m. and 7:00 - 7:30 p.m.

1:00 - 2:30 p.m. and 7:00 - 7:30 p.m.
10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon
It will be the Dog Officer's responsibility to follow-up within 48 hours with the Inspector of Animals
to see if these owners have complied and if not the Dog Officer shall be responsible for bringing these
animals to the Inspector's Office for examination.
A. J. Callahan, Jr. suggested that the Board of Health draft a form letter which will be sent by
certified mail to the owner(s) of the animal(s) involved and shall include the following information:
law; date and time of bite; name and address of person bitten; who reported it to the Board; and hours
suitable for pet to be examined. Also, copies of this notice will be sent to the Inspector of Animals
and Dog Officer in addition to the Board of Health file.
On a motion made and seconded, the Board voted to accept Mayor Grimes, proposal regarding the
Inspector of Animals and the pet owner's responsibility in this matter. The Board instructed Mr.
Scanlan to inform the Mayor, in writing, of their decision.
Meeting adjourned at 5:10 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
FOR: Thomas H. Scanlan
