Conrad, Saul J. Cagan, and Thomas J. Toomey Board members absent: Russell P. Brown Others present: Recorder: Marion A. Brown Budget Meeting Tuesday, November 7, 1961 9 A.M. A budget meeting was held on the above date to determine the 1962 budget. Those in attendance were Mrs. Conrad, Mr. Cagan and Mr. Tooracy. Mr. Brown was not able to be present. The staff salaries are set by the Mayor. After much study the mount set for pages was $11,500. The total amount for salaries including the July 1962 raises is $76,377.80. As it is very necessary to have a Clerk-typist at $2652.80 and a full-time Bookmobile Assistant at $2906, these two amounts of $5558.60 could be deducted from the page amount and $6000 be allowed for pages. The amount set for Maintenance was $24,448.20. Under the State Aid for Free Public Libraries, 1962, to obtain a reasonable portion "for books and periodicals guided by minimum standards of Free Public Library Service, the Class 6--Beverly--population 25,000 to 49,999; 12 % (minimum) would be allowed of Library's total budget for books and periodicals. Thus $12,043 should be appropriated for books and periodicals. As lighting costs approximate $200 per momh, $2400 is definitely needed. Telephone is $504 per year, Office supplies never has enough allowed so it was decided to ask for Office supplies $1,000 and make a new item Book supplies and ask for $2000. Book supplies is a very necessary item Other outlays to be considered are:- Beverly Farms Roof--20 yr. bond. $1500; Beverly Farms water proofing--S800; Main Library-New stacks and Reference Room-S32,000; New & larger bookmobile-S3800. These amounts were set by the Budget Committee to be voted on at the Nov. 16th Trustees Meeting. Marion A. Brown Clerk
