Bender, Katherine L. Fanning, Margaret C. Goodwin~ George Heller, and Helga Senko Board members absent: Edward E. Brindle, Diane J. Costa, Margaret L. DeSantis, and Neil B. Olson Others present: Recorder: Anna Langstaff Regular Meeting Board of Trustees- Beverly Public Library May 16, 1994 7:00 PM Present: Nancy Bender, Kay Fanning, Margaret Goodwin, George Heller, Helga Senko. Also Present: Thomas Scully, Anna Langstaff, Nancy Bonne. Nancy Bender presided. Margaret Goodwin made the motion, seconded by Kay Fanning, to accept the minutes of April 25, 1994 as read. Motion passed. Committee Reports Personnel: No report. Administration: No report. Finance: No report. Long Range Planning: No report. Report of the Library Director 1 ) Mayor has submitted "working" budget to City Council. Library budget that the Board submitted to him remains unchanged with the exception of raises for Tom Scully ($3000) and Anna Langstaff ($2000). 2) Tom Scully has been appointed Chief Procurement Officer, pending City Council approval. 3) Library Legislative Day is May 25, 1994. 4) Building: Contractors are working on the punch list items. Arbitration has been suspended and will resume in June. 5) There is enough money in the budget to open on Saturdays 9-5 PM during the Summer, and to resume Fall hours after Labor Day weekend. Margaret Goodwin made the motion, seconded by George Heller, to: open the library on Saturdays 9-5 during June, July and August, to close on the Saturdays of Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day weekends, and to resume Sunday hours after Labor Day. Motion carded. 6) Today is Student Government Day. 7) Beverly Public Library is not eligible to apply for federal or state grant money since the library does not meet minimum certification standards. The library will apply for a waiver for next fiscal year. 8) The library conducted an ALA Satisfaction Survey. Preliminary results show that people are very satisfied with the library. Communications 1) Letter received from Senator Bulger. Unfinished Business 1) Black Tie Fund raiser: Follow-up letter to Black Tie Fund raiser invitation list will be sent out soon. Follow-up phone calls need to be made. 2) Fall Fund raiser: Nancy Bender will send a note to Luanna Little regarding possible fall fund raiser. 3) Bequest Brochures: There has been no action taken by Tom Alexander on the brochure for the Beverly Public Library. Tom Scully will ask Lynne Francis-Lunn to look at copy for brochure. He will also ask Johanna Bohoy to do graphics. Then he will call Mike Lauranzano, Tom Alexander's partner, with price information for priming brochures. 4) Art Committee: Art committee is being formed to develop a policy for exhibits and gifts of art. Issues of insurance liability and sources of funding for the re-framing of the Barnet Collection will also be explored. Helga Senko will chair this committee. Committee will meet May 23, 1994 7:30 P.M. 5) Barnet Prints: There was a discussion of how and when to sell recently donated Barnet prints. It was agreed to keep "New England Woman Called Dawn." "Young Artists" and "The Reader" could be auctioned off. Nancy Bonne explained the adopt-a-print program. Estimated cost for re-framing Barnet prints would be $100-$120 per print. Nancy Bonne will give further information to Art Committee. New Business 1) Music Series: Tom Scully will work on establishing a music series for this Summer. 2) Homecoming: As part of the Homecoming events the library will auction several Will Barnet posters. Tom Scully, Nancy Bender, Helga Senko, Margaret Goodwin, and Ruth Bauer will decide which posters should be auctioned. There will be no meeting June 20, 1994. The next meeting of the Board will be Monday September 19, 1994 at 7:00 PM at the Main Library. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:55 P.M. Anna Lungstaft, Recorder
