Brindle, Diane J. Costa, Margaret L. DeSantis, Margaret C. Goodwin, George Heller, Neil B. Olson, and Helga Senko Board members absent: Katherine L. Fanning Others present: Recorder: Anna Langstaff Regular Meeting Board of Trustees - Beverly Public Library January 10, 1994 7:00 PM Present: Nancy Bender, Edward Brindle, Diane Costa, Margaret DeSantis, Margaret Goodwin, George HeHer, Neil Olson, Helga Senko. Also Present: Thomas Scully, Anna Longstaff. Nancy Bender presided. Edward Brindle made the motion, seconded by Margaret Goodwin, to accept the minutes of November 22, 1993 as read. Motion passed. Committee R~ons Personnel: No report. Administration: No report Finance: Although there was no report from the Finance Committee, the trustees discussed different approaches to formulate the FY 94/95 budget. Furthermore, Nancy Bender plans to meet with Mayor ScanIon to talk about administrators' salaries. Long Range Planning: 1) Dedication Ceremony: It is hoped that Governor Weld will be keynote speaker. Nancy Bender will meet with Mayor ScanIon to request his help in arranging this. Nancy Bender has invited Will Barnet to attend the dedication ceremony. Nancy Bender will approach Will Barnet regarding a donation of one of his works to the library. Helga Senko and Nancy Bender will work on invitations and program for dedication ceremony. Nancy Bender will plan refreshments. Susan hmocenti and Nancy Bonne, library staff, will help plan library programs for the dedication week. Report of the Library Director 1) Beverly Farms Position: Job has been offered to two people as a job-share. 2) Adult Services Position: There are two finalists for this position. 3) Building: Front doors should be finished today or tomorrow. Measurements are being taken for front stairway. Proceeding with punch list. Next T.L.T. arbitration date: January 14, 1994.4) Children's Room: The Loring Family has given sufficient funds to furnish the children's room. Communistions A letter was received from Mrs. Shindler, widow of former trustee Toby Shindler. A check was enclosed. Nancy Bender will send an acknowledgment. Unfinished Business 1 ) Nancy Bender reported that Mr. Benevento is out of town and will bring his painting to the library when he returns. 2) Eurotunnel lecture is on hold. George Heller is waiting for a response from Mr. Bertrand. 3 ) Reference Room: It was agreed that the reference room will be dedicated to Esther Calish. 4) Art Restoration: Helga Senko will contact art restorer. 5) Fund raisers: A. Black Tie Bank Fund raiser: Tom Scully, Nancy Bender, Margaret DeSantis will meet with Larry Smith on Wednesday, January 12, 1994. The fired raiser will be on March 2, 1994 6-8 PM at the library. Bob Seamarts has agreed to be honorary chairperson of this event. The caterer has been confirmed: Celebrations Inc. Tom Scully will arrange for the music. He will contact Valetie McCaffrey for invitation list. order of events for the evening needs to be worked out. B. Optional Black Tie Dance Fund raiser: Luanna Little has agreed to run the optional black tie/food tasting fund raiser. Tentative date: end of September 1994. C. Art Auction: Ruth Bauer will be ticket chair. George Heller and Diane Costa will arrange p.m. Nancy Bender will arrange for refreshments. George Heller will ask Ross Galleries representative to attend next Board meeting. Tom Scully will ask John Newman, Friends president, to sign art auction contract. Date: April 9, 1994. New Business Ruth Bauer offered to make a donation of her painting "Point of View." Diane Costa made the motion, seconded by Nell Olson, to accept Ruth Bauefs donation of her painting "Point of View." The motion was unanimously approved. The next meeting of the Board will be Monday, February 14, 1994 at 7:00 PM at the Main Library. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:40 PM. Anna Langstaff, Recorder
