1970-03-19 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 03/19/1970 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Louisa V. Conrad, Diane M. Isenberg, Robert W. Lovett, Mieth Maeser, Dr. Cornelius J. Murray, Albert J. Ricci, Barbara D. Risley, and Carolyn F. Standley Board members absent: Dorothy K. Sterman Others present: Recorder: Florence A. Luther Thursday, March 19, 1970 4 P.M. The regular meeting was held at the Library on the above date. Present were Mrs. Conrad, presiding, Mr. Ricci, Miss StandIcy, Dr. Murray, Mr. Maeser, Mr. Lovett, Mrs. Risley and Mrs. Isenberg. VOTED: Mrs. Conrad Chairman of the Board. Mrs. Risley Secretary of the Board. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Administration: Mr. Ricci reported on the accident at Dane and Essex Streets which damaged hedge and tulip tree. He requested copies of letters to American Employers Insurance Company and Liberty Mutual Insurance Company be sent to the Legal Affairs and Accounts Committee. Because of Mr. Altshuler's illness, the Bookmobile is on limited schedule. Morning street stops are eliminated. All shut-ins, Senior Citizens Apartments, nursing homes and afternoon school stops are being serviced. Both the staff and the Trustees have offered to service anyone on street stop who is unable to get out. (This is to be written up for the BEVERLY TIMES). Mrs. Conrad reported that the Beverly Farms Garden Club is still interested in planting at the Beverly Farms Branch. Mr. Rieci will see Capt. Stackpole concerning more enforcement of parking rules. Reports of the Department heads were read. Communications: Thank-you notes received from Mrs. Hall and Mrs. Gibbs. Suggestions from Mr. Jones to Mr. Cole were read. These were for longer week-end hours, surveillance by dosed circuit TV and less staff. State Aid in the amount of $9,027.00 has been approved. Mr. Corkery's request for drinking fountain in foyer considered. The Clerk was instructed to write explaining that water cooler and tap on each floor available. Some discussion was made on applications for open position. No decision made pending further applications and budget passage. Librarian reported requests for prints, tapes and cassettes. The consensus of opinion was that these should not be considered at the present time. Mrs. Conrad will call Mrs. Govoni concerning her interest in the Library as shown in her article to BEVERLY TIMES. The Library will start ordering magazines on film - SATURDAY REVIEW and TIME.
