Report of the Librarian: 1 ) The aldermen approved the budget submitted by the trustees. They
approved a lump sum total for the maintenance account and a lump sum total for the personnel
account. However each department head is authorized to spend up to 85% of their budget, after
which they must go to the aldermen for permission to spend the rest. Also all employees who are not
covered by a union contract will not receive a promotion, step increase, or any kind of pay raise or
reclassification without the alderman's permission. 2) We have put out the contract for all the
Children's Room furniture, since and Rotary and Conrad donations will cover those furnishings.
Beyond that we have the money to buy the balance of the book stacks with wood end panels for the
main floor and metal end panels for the stacks. We also have money for study tables, book trucks,
some lounge chairs, stack chairs, 2 reader printers, 4 microfilm readers, and 4 micro~che readers. We
have money set aside for the phone system. We have no money for office furniture or chairs for the
study tables among other things. 3 ) The city has a management information system bid out that is to
be awarded this September and we are supposed to get 5 PCs out of that. 4) There is a staff
committee organizing the move and we are hoping to move the last week in September or first week
in October. 5) Last years circulation statistics wife distributed. 6) We offered the use of the new
building as a voting precinct for the downtown ward. The City Clerk is very enthusiastic about the
idea. Nell Olson moved to send a letter to the aldermen offering the use of the new library building
as voting precinct for Wards 2 - 1 and 2 - 2. Motion passed.
