Board of Trustees Beverly Public Library
February 22, 1993 7:30 PM
Present: Nancy Bender, Edward Brindle, Diane Costa, Margaret DeSantis, Margaret Goodwin.
Also present: Thomas Scully, SheHa Glowacki.
Disposition of minutes of previous meeting: Diane Costa moved to accept minutes of previous
meeting. Motion passed.
Elections of officers was held. Nancy Bender nominated Diane Costa for Secretary. Edward Brindle
nominated Nancy Bender for Chairman. There being no other nominations Margaret Goodwin moved
that the Secretary cast an unanimous ballot for the slate of officers. Motion passed.
Nancy Bender presided over the remainder of the meeting.
There were no committee reports.
Report of the Librarian: 1) Concerning the Archer house, the city lost in arbitration and must pay
T.L.T. $83,000. for the house. T.L.T. is also cling damages for the delay in the start of work. That
issue will go to arbitration at a later date. 2) On March 5 there will be a heating of the state Board
of Library Commissioners to determine what libraries will receive waivers and be awarded a portion
oftheir state aid. 3) We have to submit a level funded budget to city hall by March 15.4) One of our
custodians with whom we have been in the process of termination, has been in the hospital for the last
four weeks. We have met with the mayor concerning the situation and the only way we could receive
a replacement would be through a transfer from within the city. 5) Concerning the building, the
primer is on all the interior walls and stairway, all utilities are in and the elevator is running. T.L.T.
is projecting a completion date of March 28.6) Our librarians will be taking part in an exchange with
the school librarians. They will be visiting the schools at the end of March.
Old business: 1 ) Concerning the vacancy on the Board, several people were mentioned and discussed.
2) Members were asked to bring in their membership renewals to the Massachusetts Trustees
Association. 3) The dedication of the new building was discussed. A possible date of july 11 or 13
was discussed. A committee is being formed. 4) It any trustee would like to change their committee
assignment speak to Nancy before the next meeting.
New business: The Long Range Committee will meet on Wednesday, March 10 at 7:30 at the Main
Library.
