raise. Since the Mu!len Agency will not be doing the brochure, the idea was discussed to put together
a loose leaf notebook to personally take around to prospective contributors. A slide program is also
being put together to take to different organizations. Also discussed was how to get grass roots
support and contributions and how to set up an endowment fund.
Report of the Librarian: 1 ) An article from the New York Times was distributed concerning a national
research and education network. This high speed teleeommunications system would link libraries,
museums, research centers, universities, etc. NOBLE will be connecting to INTERNET in the spring.
2) The budget printout as of November 30, was distributed. 3) The Director has been attending
Aldermanic meetings on the subject of the deficit. At one meeting Alderman Hannibal voiced his
concern about the city having two libraries. The issue was not pursued, however, and did not appear
in the eity's proposal to balance the budget. We still plan to be prepared to fight this if it comes up
at budget time. The chairman and director met with the Prides and Farms Mother's Club to inform
them of the situation. 4) Concerning next year's budget we are waiting for guidelines from city hall
before we go ahead and prepare it. 5) Update on building - Plastering is done on the first two floors
and almost done on the third and fourth; interior doors are coming next week; within a month the
painting will be done and the ceiling will be up. 6) Next month we will set up a committee for the
library dedication.
Next meeting is February 22.
Meeting adjourned at 8:45.
