Present: Nancy Bender, Edward Brindle, Diane Costa, Kay Fanning, Margaret Goodwin, Neff Olson,
Helga Senko.
Also present: Thomas Scully, Sheila Glowacki.
Nancy Bender presided.
Diane Costa moved that the minutes of the previous meeting be accepted. Motion passed.
Report of the Librarian: 1) Building project is going ahead of schedule. The outside of the building
is almost finished. They are finishing up the roof work as well as the sidewalks and other outside
work. The general contractor is shooting for a March 1 st completion date though the architect
believes that is unrealistic. 2) The traffic and parking commission agreed to remove the parking
meters in front of the building with the stipulation that if we wanted them back we would have to pay
for them. They would like the handicapped parking to stay. 3) Concerning the city's finances, the
bankers have told city officials that they must make up the $8.5 million deficit in 3 years. This may
have a devastating effect on the library's budget. We cannot begin our budget process for next year
until we have some direction from the city. 4) Concerning the employee who filed a sexual harassment
complaint against the library, she also filed an appeal. with the division of employment and training
because she was denied unemployment compensation. We attended a heating on the issue and we
were represented by Bruce Burgess. A ruling will be forthcoming. According to the eity's sexual
harassment officer, she has no case.
New business: The meeting calendar for the year was accepted as presented by the Assistant Director.
Next meeting will be November 16.
