Disposition of the minutes of the previous meeting: Edward Brindle moved that the minutes of the previous meeting be approved. Motion passed. Long range planning report: Last Saturday was appraisal day. Publicity was good, and we made $1335. Nancy thanked all the trustees for their help. Bell's and Dunkin' Donuts donated the refreshments and paper products. Report of the Librarian: 1) We had 300 children participate in the summer reading club and they read nearly 1500 books. We had a party at both the Farms and the Main libraries and got donations from, Klink's, Friendly's, and Consone's Stationary. 2) Concerning the budget, every department was asked to make a 4% cut in their budget. The library and two other departments were the only one's that complied with the request with the rest submitting level funded or higher budgets. Bruce Burgess and Tom Fallon commended the Library for making the cuts. 3) Concerning the new building the brick work is halfway up, by the end ofthe month all the masonry will be done on the outside, the windows will be in and the building will be pretty much sealed up. The outside site work should be done by winter. All plumbing is in. The problems we are experiencing seem to be a result of the architect not doing careful measurements. The other half of the problem is that the general contractor does great with new construction but does not have the expertise or desire to do good restoration work. In spite of that the quality of work on the addition is quite good. 4) The General Contractor has filed a claim for $73,000. for the cost of the Dalton House. 5) A former part time employee of the library is filing a M.C.A.D. complaint against the library alleging that she was harassed when she worked here. 6)NOBLE is going to be experimenting with a telecommunication system called INTERNET which is a worldwide network. New Business: 1) Neil Olson moved that the Board contact the appropriate city officials to request that the parking meters and handicapped space be removed from in front of the building. Motion passed. 2) Margaret Goodwin moved that the Board send a letter to the Board of Aldermen requesting that they grant Mass Electric an casement to place a vault on library. Motion passed. 3) Ed Brindle will draft a letter that will be sent to Toby Shindler's wife on behalf of the Trustees. Meeting adjourned at 8:50. Sheila C-lowacld- Recorder
