Report of the Librarian: 1) The mayor has asked for a meeting with the Board of Alderman Thursday night. The city's financial advisor from the Shawmut Bank will make a presentation on how the library project can be paid for. The Friends did a mailing inviting people to attend the meeting. 2) Nancy Bender and Diane Costa discussed the petition drive headed by Michele Mann and the women in the Farms Mother's Club. There are ward leaders in charge ofvolumeers going door to door and standing at grocery stores collecting names of people in support of the Library Project. 1400 names have already been collected. People who have been going door to door are finding that people not only want to sign the petition, but they also want to talk about their good experiences at the library. Toby Shindler extended the appreciation of the Board to Nancy, Diane and all the volunteers. The Director has also been going to local civic associations discussing the library project. 3) The Director and Assistant Director will be meeting with the Director of the State Agency to try and persuade them not to cut the $2 million grant, and send a letter to the Board of Aldermen to that effect. Meeting adjourned at 8:45. SheHa Glowacki- Recorder
