1990-09-18 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 09/18/1990 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Nancy A. Bender, Edward E. Brindle, Margaret L. DeSantis, Margaret C. Goodwin, Neil B. Olson, and Helga Senko Board members absent: Katherine L. Fanning, Diane J. Costa, and Nathan T. Shindler Others present: Recorder: Sheila Gtowacki Regular Meeting Board of Trustees September 18, 1990 7:30 PM Present: Nancy Bender, Edward Brindle, Margaret DeSantis, Margaret Goodwin, Neil Olson and Helga Senko. Also present: Thomas Scully and Sheila Glowacld. Nancy Bender presided. Disposition of minutes of the previous meeting: Diane Costa moved that the minutes of the previous meeting be accepted. Motion passed. Margaret DeSantis and Margaret Goodwin, two new Board members, were introduced and welcomed. Committee reports: No reports. Building Commission: Neil Olson reported that the state will release the $2 million to the city over a three year period. Also the Board of Aldermen voted to reconsider their vote to bond $6 million for the library renovation. Report of the Librarian: 1 ) The Children's and Young Adult Librarian's have left leaving the Library staffing at 75%. 2) We have received 3 bids to replace the oil tanks. Michaud was the low bid at $2195.3) We have been having problem with the electrical in the building with fuses being blown in the reference and children's room frequently. 4) During a sudden rainstorm this summer the downstairs meeting room was flooded taking 6 - 8 weeks to dry out. 5) The bookmobile needs brake repair. 6) The Board of Library Commissioner's budget has been cut by 4% meaning we will be receiving $1500. less in state aid. On the home front, Mayor Monahan has reiterated his hiring freeze for full time people. He has also said there will be no supplemental budgets. City managers will not be getting raises. New business: A letter of appreciation will be sent to Susan Salt and Fran McCarthy for their service on the Board. The next meeting will be October 15, at 7:30. The meeting adjourned at 9:05 PM.
