Brindle, Diane J. Costa, Nell B. Olson, Helga Sealco, and Nathan T. Shindler Board members absent: Katherine L. Fanning, Frances J. McCarthy, and Susan M. Salt Others present: Recorder: Sheila Glowacki Regular Meeting Board of Trustees -- Beverly Public Library November 20, 1989 7:30 PM Present: Nancy Bender, Edward Brindle, Diane Costa, Nell Olson, Helga Senko, Toby Shindler. Also present: Thomas Scully and Sheila Glowacki. Nancy Bender presided. Disposition of minutes of the previous meeting: Edward Brindle moved that the minutes of the previous meeting be accepted. Motion passed. Committee reports. Personnel: No report. Administration: No report. Finance: No report. Committee will meet in the next few weeks. Long Range Planning: No report. Report of the Librarian: 1) There will be a strategy session December 1 for all libraries that received state construction grants. Hopefully a plan will be developed to encourage the governor to release funds for construction. 2) Tom and Sheila met with Daniel Baker, a fund raising consultant who described his experiences with fund raising for libraries. 3) There is a leak in the skylight in the Barnet Room. 4) The Children's Room light fixtures are so old that we have been advised to disconnect them as they blow out. 5) The FY91 budget for NOBLE was presented and discussed. Nell Olson moved to accept the FY91 NOBLE budget as presented. Motion passed. 6) The Friends of the Farms are having their annual Christmas party December 10 from 2 to 4. They are also donating money to start a CD collection at the Farms. 7) Friends of the Library have provided funds to start a books on tape collection at the main library. 8) The two Apple circulation computers that have been upgraded to IBMs are now being used for public use. One computer is in the children's room and the other is at the Farms. 9) We will be receiving our delivc~ van next week. It will be used for home bound deliveries and transporting items back and forth from the Farms. We are preparing a proposal to contract with NOBLE to deliver items to Gordon, Endicott and Montserrat Colleges. 10) Circulation reports were distributed showing an increase in all departments. Communications: A letter of appreciation was received from a resident of Beverly Commons commending the Library on the Bookmobile service. New Business: A discussion was held whether the Board wanted to meet with Daniel Baker. It was decided to wait until m°ter the first of the year. The meeting adjourned at 8:40.
