Murphy Others present: Recorder: Sheila Glowacki Regular Meeting Board of Trustees -- Beverly Public Library June 27, 1988 7:30 PM Present: Edward Brindle, Diane Costa, Fran McCarthy, Neil Olson, Susan Salt, Toby Shindler. Also Present: Thomas Scully and Sheila Glowacki Disposition of the minutes of the previous meeting: Ed Brindle moved that the minutes reflect the discussion of the Assistant Director's contract. The minutes were accepted as mended. Committee reports: Administration: No report. Finance: The Library's budget hearing was May 31. Cuts that were made and approved by the Board of Aldermen were money for a delivery van, $15,000.00 from the Library Materials Account and $1,500.00 from the Assistant Director's salary. Personnel: No report. Long Range Planning: On June 8, the L.R.P. Committee met with the department heads of the library to discuss the proposed goals of the library. It was requested that an elaboration of each goal be submitted. In response Mr. Scully distributed copies containing a fuller explanation of each goal and said that the department heads would be meeting again to develop specific objectives for achieving each goal. Diane Costa, Nancy Bender, Tom Scully and Sheila Glowacki toured the Andover Public Library. Their recent renovations resemble our plans in several ways. Their building is 50,000 sq. ours will be 53,000. They will be maintaining two entrances as we are planning. The issue of stacks on a separate floor with little supervision is similar, and also the adding of an addition onto an older building. Librarian's Report: 1 ) A tentative bookmobile schedule was distributed. A part-time driver is currently driving the truck until the Bookmobile Librarian receives her license. The truck is currently in Worcester where the air conditioning is being fixed. 2) The matter of moving the Dalton house onto library property in order to facilitate the building project was discussed. 3) Concerning the State Construction Grant Round, the state has issued a set of preliminary regulations. A public hearing for comments on these regulations will be held August 4. A grant proposal will have to be submitted to the Board of Library Commissioners by January 4, 1989. 4) A copy of a sign up sheet and proposed rules for the use of materials in the local history rooms at both the main library and Farms branch were distributed. Neil Olson moved that the Board accept the documents for the control of the Beverly Room and other rare book areas of the library. Motion passed. 5) On July 1 the copy fee for the copy machines which are the property of the Friends of the Library will increase from. 10 to. 15. Toby Shindler moved that the fee on the microfilm reader printer, microtithe reader printer, and also the copy machine at the Farms be raised to. 15 also. Motion passed. 6) Interviews are now being conducted for the Children's Librarian and the Branch Librarian. Sheila will also conduct interviews at ALA. 7) With the new full time Librarian at the Farms Mr. Scully distributed a proposed schedule of increased hours at the Farms. Neil Olson moved that the Board adopt the schedule as a pilot program for FY 89 and at the end of that period of time the director will analyze the use of the added hours and report back to the Trustees. Motion passed. 8) Also funded in the budget is enough staff to reopen Saturdays in September. Toby Shindler moved that the library return to winter hours on the Monday after Labor Day. Motion passed. Communications: Fran McCarthy received a call from Mrs. Salandrea asking about story hour. A thank you note was received from Kathleen Henrichon.
