Long Range Planning: On June 8, the L.R.P. Committee met with the department heads of
the library to discuss the proposed goals of the library. It was requested that an elaboration of each
goal be submitted. In response Mr. Scully distributed copies containing a fuller explanation of each
goal and said that the department heads would be meeting again to develop specific objectives for
achieving each goal.
Diane Costa, Nancy Bender, Tom Scully and Sheila Glowacki toured the Andover Public
Library. Their recent renovations resemble our plans in several ways. Their building is 50,000 sq.
ours will be 53,000. They will be maintaining two entrances as we are planning. The issue of stacks
on a separate floor with little supervision is similar, and also the adding of an addition onto an older
building.
Librarian's Report: 1 ) A tentative bookmobile schedule was distributed. A part-time driver is currently
driving the truck until the Bookmobile Librarian receives her license. The truck is currently in
Worcester where the air conditioning is being fixed. 2) The matter of moving the Dalton house onto
library property in order to facilitate the building project was discussed. 3) Concerning the State
Construction Grant Round, the state has issued a set of preliminary regulations. A public hearing for
comments on these regulations will be held August 4. A grant proposal will have to be submitted to
the Board of Library Commissioners by January 4, 1989. 4) A copy of a sign up sheet and proposed
rules for the use of materials in the local history rooms at both the main library and Farms branch
were distributed. Neil Olson moved that the Board accept the documents for the control of the
Beverly Room and other rare book areas of the library. Motion passed. 5) On July 1 the copy fee for
the copy machines which are the property of the Friends of the Library will increase from. 10 to. 15.
Toby Shindler moved that the fee on the microfilm reader printer, microtithe reader printer, and also
the copy machine at the Farms be raised to. 15 also. Motion passed. 6) Interviews are now being
conducted for the Children's Librarian and the Branch Librarian.

director will analyze the use of the added hours and report back to the Trustees. Motion passed. 8)
Also funded in the budget is enough staff to reopen Saturdays in September. Toby Shindler moved
