Present: Nancy Bender, Edward Brindle, Kathleen Henriehon, Frances McCarthy, Nell Olson, Susan
Salt, Toby Shindler
Also Present: Diane Costa, League of Women Voters; Tom Scully and Sheila Glowacki
Kathleen Henrichon presided.
Disposition of the minutes of the previous meeting: Toby Shindler moved that the minutes of the
previous meeting be accepted. Motion passed.
Committee reports
Personnel: No report.
Administration: No report.
Long Range Planning: The committee is beginning to work on a five year capital
improvement plan. The possibility of a joint meeting with the Long Range Planning and the
Building Commission was discussed.
Finance: Chainnan Frances McCarthy was attending a meeting of the Board of Aldermen's
Committee on Finance and Property. Kathleen Henrichon reported on the budget hearing for
the library's 87-88 budget that was held on June 9. The Director answered many questions
but the committee did not give any reactions or indications at what levels the programs would
be funded. Fran McCarthy then returned from the Finance and Property meeting. She
reported that the committee had proposed $55,985.59 in cuts to our proposed budget. A
lengthy discussion concerning the proposed budget cuts followed.
Librarian's Report: 1) The dedication of the Will Barnet Room will be Sunday June 21 from 2 to 4.
2) The Friends of the Library Clam Bake will be June 28 at the Beverly Golf and Tennis Club. Tickets
may be purchased at the Circulation Desk. 3) Fran McCarthy moved that the library be closed
Saturday, September 5 of Labor Day weekend. Motion passed. 4) Max Rubinstein has gotten new
lighting donated for the Will Barnet Room and is also trying to get carpet donated. 5) Rose Olson
has an art exhibit in the Will Barnet Room this month. There will be a reception Tuesday night June
16 from 7-8.
Communications: 1) Muriel Zaginailoffthanked the Board of Trustees and the Library staff for their
cooperation and help in setting up the art exhibit for Rose Olson. She is pleased with the cooperation
and hopes we can have more such art exhibits. 2) The Beverly Improvement Society would like to
know if we are interested in green plants for the Will Barnet Room.
