Sloughton, Monday Morning Cultural Society; Joe Scoglio; Helen Nadler, League of Women Voters; Howard Calish, Friends of the Beverly Public Library Recorder: Sheila Glowacid Regular Meeting Board of Trustees -- Beverly Public Library January 27, 1986 7:30 PM Present: Kathleen Henrichort, Frances McCarthy, Kevin Murphy, Susan Salt, Toby Shindiet, Nancy White, Kay Fanning, Neil Olson Also present: Jennis Gorini, Edna R. Parsons, Philip Parsons, Roger K. Stoughton - Monday Morning Cultural Society; Joe Scoglio - resident; Helen Nadler - League of Women Voters; Robert Hardy - Beverly Times; Howard Calish Friends of the Library; Sheila Glowacki. Kathleen Henrichon presided. A moment of silence was observed in remembrance of Esther Calish. Disposition of the minutes of the previous meeting: Toby Shindler moved to accept the minutes of the previous meeting. Motion passed. Public presentation to. discussion with the Board: Edna Parsons spoke on behalf of the Monday Morning Cultural group and discussed the crowded conditions due to increase in attendance at programs. Committee reports: Personnel: Nancy White moved to request of the Board of Aldermen that Sheila Glowacid be named acting director until such time as a director can be hired. Motion passed. Nancy White moved that Ms. Glowacid receive Step 1 of Grade 20, $533.82/week retroactive to January 1. Motion passed. Nancy White moved to request of the Board of Aldermen to fill the position of the Director of the Beverly Public Library. Motion passed. Nancy White moved that the Board advertise for the position of Director in American Libraries, Library Journal, the Simmons Hotline, Library Hotline and the Globe upon approval by the Board of Aldermen. Administration: The matter of the roof is now in the hands of the Assistant City Solicitor Tom Alexander will be contacting the contractor and the consultant to attempt to resolve the matter. Finance: The Finance Committee will meet on February 4 at 4:00 P.M. Long Range Planning: The details of the contract for the feasibility study are being worked out by the architect and assistant city solicitor. Librarian's Report: 1) Anna Hartogh had a baby gift and is on medical leave. Joan Nelson will serve as head of Circulation during her absence. 2) The writers series has started. 3) The Let's Talk About It book discussion series will begin April 6. 4) Neil Olson moved to accept the Salem, Everett, Winthrop and Saugus libraries' application for membership into NOBLE. Motion passed. 5) The State Aid Incentive Grant was discussed. Nancy White moved that the funds be used for the following: card catalog fumiture, video cassettes and related equipment and furniture, telephone replacement, audio cassettes and compact discs, microfilm back issues of "Beverly Citizen." Motion passed. Communications: Correspondence was read from the League of Women Voters. Unfinished business: Parking meters were discussed. New Business: Nell Olson moved that the Board give a $25.00 savings bond to Eleanor Jane Langstaf[. Motion passed. Public presentation to and discussion with the Board: Howard Calish thanked the Board for their support of Esther during her term as Director. The meeting adjourned at 8:50 P.M.
