Henrichon, Richard L. BuckIcy, Frances J. McCarthy, Keyin J. Murphy, Nell B. Olson, Susan M. Salt, Nathan T. Shindler, and Nancy A. White Board members absent: Katherine L. Fanning Others present: Vada Komich, League of Women Voters; Howard Calish, Friends of the Beverly Public Library Recorder: Sheila Glowacki Regular Meeting Board of Trustees -- Beverly Public Library November 25, 1985 7:30 PM Present: Richard Buckley, Kathleen Henrichon, Frances McCarthy, Kevin Murphy, Neil Olson, Susan Salt, Toby Shindler, Nancy White. Also present: Howard Calish, Friends of the Library; Joseph Roeha, Beverly Times; Vada Komich, League of Women Voters. Kathleen Henrichon presided. Disposition of the minutes of the previous meeting: Nancy White moved to accept the minutes of the previous meeting. Motion passed. Public presentation to. discussion with the Board: President Henrichon introduced Joseph Rocha from the Beverly Times. Committee reports: Personnel: No report. Administration: Mr. Murphy reported that according to Joseph Mulligan, the plasterers did an excellent job. The painters also have completed the first coat. The roofing contractor was supposed to meet with Mr. Mulligan last Tuesday but did not show up. Mr. Murphy had Mr. Mulligan send a letter to the Morello Brothers directing them to have all work completed by Wednesday December 4, or legal action will be taken. Finance: No Report. Long Range Planning: There have been two meetings of the L.R.P. Committee. Out of the eleven Architectural proposals that were submitted, three rinns were chosen for interviews. They are: A. Anthony Tappe and Associates, Inc., Mark Mitchell and Associates, and Notter, Finegold and Alexander, Inc. Interviews will be held the week of December 9. Alist of questions to be asked were discussed. The questions will be sent to the firms to be interviewed. Af[er the interviews the L.R.P. Committee will make a recommendation to the Board. Keyin Murphy moved to accept the report of the Long Range Planning Committee. Motion passed. Librarian's Report: 1) The city has received the Library Incentive Grant money in the mount of $18,827.50. Mrs. Calish will make her recommendations to the Finance Committee as to how this money should be expended in January or February. Current considerations include: a) $2500. to micro film historic B evefly newspapers. b) $10,000 -$12,000. to upgrade the library's audio-visual collection including video tapes. c) Expanding our crowded card catalog. 2) We have received a grant from the American Library Association and National Endowment for the Humanities to conduct a book discussion series called "What America Reads". The grant will provide guest lecturers and $250. toward the purchase of paperback books. 3) We are planning to apply for the Arts Lottery Grant to help fund a lively arts festival for the Gala in the fall to celebrate our 130th Anniversary. 4) According to the Police Department, the parking lot meters should be delivered by December 1, and installed shortly thereafter. 5) The Bookworms' Ball will be December 15. Entertainment includes: Patch of Blue, Broken Consort, Beverly Johnson, and the Beverly High School Carol singers. The Beverly Historical Society is also providing a display. Unfinished business: Neil Olson moved to send a letter to Kay Fanning noting the Board's appreciation for the very fine job in carrying out the dedication ceremony for the ramp at the Farms. Motion passed. Frances McCarthy moved that all outreach programs of the Beverly-Public L~rary including the Bookmobile, home delivery program, and the Beverly Farms Branch, continue to be supported by the Board of Trustees.
