McCarthy Recorder: Nancy Aberman Special Meeting Board of Trustees-Beverly Public Library February 6, 1984 6:30 p.m. Present: Richard Buckley, Conhie Dooling Nancy White, Kay Fanning, Kevin Murphy, Neil Olson, Lester Ayers, Roger Morency. Also present: Nancy Aberman; Jill Backstrom, Allan Laravee, John O'Brien, Mary Buckley, Jo Lennox, Christine Shehill, Frances Trowt, Virginia McGlynn, Susan Salt, Kathleen Henrichon, Fran McCarthy. Mr. Buckley noted the purpose of the meeting was to discuss pending litigation and other matters. Mr. Morency moved that the Board enter into Executive Session for the purpose of discussing litigation. Mrs. Fanning seconded. The roll call vote was as follows: Mrs. Dooling-yes; Ms. White-yes; Mrs. Fanning-yes; Mr. Murphy-yes; Mr. Olson-yes; Mr. Ayers-yes; Mr. Morency-yes; Mr. Buckicy-yes. The motion passed. The Board entered Executive Session. Regular session resumed at 7:15 p.m. Mr. Buckby reported that the attorney advises that the Lihrarian's contract must include a probationary period. Mr. Morency moved that the Librarian's contract, as approved by the Board on December 19, 1983, be amended to include a 60-day probationary period during which time the Librarian will serve at the will of the Board, and that this be referred to City Solicitor Ricci for proper legal phrasing. Mr. Ayers seconded. The motion passed. Mr. Morency moved that the contract as amended be offered to Mrs. Calish. Ms. White seconded. Under discussion, Board members expressed their feelings. Mrs. Dooling moved to table the motion until the next regular meeting of the Board on February 22. Mr. Ayers seconded. Motion passed. Mr. Ayers made a motion to adjourn. Mrs. Dooling seconded.
