1969-12-11 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 12/11/1969 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Louisa V. Conrad, Diane M. Isenberg, Robert W. Lovett, Mieth Maeser, Dr. Cornelius J. Murray, Albert J. Ricci, Barbara D. Risley, and Carolyn F. Standley Board members absent: Dorothy K. Sterman Others present: Recorder: Florence A. Luther Thursday, December 11, 1969 4 P.M. The regular meeting was held at the Library on the above date, Present were Mrs. Conrad, presiding Mr. Ricci, Miss Standley, Dr. Murray, Mr. Maeser, Mrs. Sterman, Mr. Lovett, Mrs. Risley and Mrs. Isenberg Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Financial sheets were presented. Librarian reported: Boiler repairs completed. Dr. Collins of the Beverly Historical Commission had offered a permanent loan of the 66 books of a series called, "Eyewitness Accounts of the American Revolution." The Commission specified that the books are to be for reference but to be borrowed by Commission members only. VOTED: To accept with gratitude the generous offer of the Historical Commission. Since Mrs. Hall and Mrs. Gibbs are leaving the staff as of January 1, it was decided. that now is the time to again try to fill the Assistant's position by advertising in trade journals for a candidate with a Master's degree. VOTED: To request Mrs. Seully to take the position of Assistant. VOTED: Miss Carleton to acting Cataloger. VOTED: Mrs. Stevens to Senior Desk Assistant. VOTED: That the Library close at 12 noon on December 24 and December 31 Mr. Lovett reported on the Great Books meeting. Since there were only five Beverly residents present, in his opinion it is doubtful that a group will be started here. Trustees who attended Trustees Association meeting in Manchester reported on the discussions and weighted the possibility of forming two groups to meet with only libraries of comparative size.
