Thursday, November 20, 1969 4 P.M.
The regular meeting was held at the Library on the above date. Present were Mrs. Risley presiding,
Miss StandIcy, Dr. Murray, Mr. Lover and Mr. Ricei.
Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
Administration:
New restricted parking signs at both Main and Farms Libraries have been put up.
Damage caused by recent boiler explosion was discussed. Estimate of repairs for boiler
covering fuel pump, door to boiler room, cracked windows, and rug is $1,012.10. Claim is
being made to Maryland Casualty Co. Mr. Cataldo, the Company's representative, has already
inspected damage.
Librarian rdported:
Graphs showed an over-all increase in circulation.
Staff members had attended North Shore Library meeting at Marblehead. Emphasis was on Library
Media not just book circulation.
Librarian had attended similar meeting in Haverhill and had tour of new library there. Architect spoke
on problems of planning
Booklets issued by Eastern Mass. Regional Public Library System entitled, "What is a City" were
shown. In this book David Bossie, a Beverly boy, illustrated his idea of a city.
Department reports were omitted, but a summary was made of all the busy activities of Book Week
and excellent cooperation of elementary school librarian and Children's Librarian. Financial sheet
presented.
Mr. Lovett reported on Mass. Library Trustees' Association meeting which he and Mrs. Conrad had,
attended. Bargaining and new ways to reach out in the community were the topics.
Communications:
Mrs. Jane Mudge, Coordinator of Boston Great Books Council, requested use of the Yellow Room
for meeting on December 10 from 7 -9 P.M.
VOTED that Great Books group have use of room for December 10, and that a list be kept of those
attending to determine how many Beverly residents are interested.
Mrs. Adele Q. Erwin of Manchester invited the Trustees to "Get Acquainted and Share the Wealth"
program on December 4. Miss StandIcy, Dr. Murray, Mr. Lovett and Mr. Maeser will attend.
Trustees from neighboring towns will be in attendance.
VOTED that the December meeting be held on December 11 and that personnel changes be
considered then.
Discussion of future planning followed and it was noted that until the budget is approved, not too
much could be done.
