1969-04-17 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 04/17/1969 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Louisa V. Conrad, Diane M. Isenberg, Robert W. Lovett, Mieth Maeser, Dr. Cornelius J. Murray, Albert J. Ricci, Barbara D. Risley, Carolyn F. StandIcy, and Thomas J. Toomey Board members absent: Others present: Recorder: Florence A. Luther Thursday, April 17, 1969 4 P.M. The regular meeting was held at the Library on the above date. Present were Mrs. Conrad, presiding, Miss Standley, Mrs. Isenberg, Mr. Maeser, Mr. Toomey, Dr. Murray, Mr. Lovett, Mr. Ricci and Mrs. Risley. The minutes were read and approved. Reports of the departments were read and placed on file. The financial sheet was presented as was the final budget. Administration: Walls were again discussed and it is hoped some temporary covering could be done to the section on the stairway leading to the top floor. The door at the Farms was repaired, but will need more attention before winter. Also, door closure should be replaced. Mr. Abate is to be contacted for suggestion in leveling the marble by the main entrance doorway at the main library. Pointing up of stairs at both libraries is in the process of being done. Dr. Murray reported that House Bill 1333 is now in the Ways & Means Committee. Communication was received from Mrs. Adele Erwin, Chairman, Manchester Public Library Trustees, concerning recent change in County dog licensing fund uses which affect county public libraries. No action was taken pending report of dog tax monies transferred to library budget. This could seriously affect the mount of money available for book purchases. Voted Mrs. Conrad, chainnan and Mrs. Risley, secretary. Since there was some question about when Mrs. Cook would want to return, it was voted that she not return until she had fully recovered for her own safety. Mrs. Isenberg suggested that consideration be given to advanced students who wished to use the main reading room. Also, she told of excellent co-operation received in Boston Public Library by young man doing research paper. This is a phase of Regional Services. A letter from Mrs. White addressed to Mrs. Luther was read, and Mrs. Luther was instructed to request Mrs. White to readdress the letter to the Board of Trustees. Mr. Ricci reported he was assembling material received from Robert Sondrol of the Melrose Library and would present same to the Board at the next meeting. Meeting adjourned at 6 P.M. Florence A.
