1969-01-16 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 01/16/1969 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Louisa V. Conrad, Diane M. Isenberg, Robert W. Lovett, Dr. Cornelius J. Murray, Barbara D. Risley, and Carolyn F. Standley Board members absent: Mieth Maeser, Albert J. Rieci, and Thomas J. Toomey Others present: Recorder: Florence A. Luther Thursday, January 16, 1969 4 P.M. The regular meeting was held at the Library on the above date. Present were Mrs. Conrad, presiding, Mrs. Risley, Mr. Lovett, Dr. Murray, Miss Standley and Mrs. Isenberg. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. The circulation graphs of each department were presented. The report of Circulation desk was read. The Librarian reported funds retumed to the City at the end of the year as follows: Maintenance $3.40, Salaries $2,073.14, Other Outlays $ 30.40. Mrs. Conrad read a communication from Mr. Shaw and the latest copy of the New England Insurance Rating Association Report stating a non-standard vent in gas heater, also areaways to basement windows require mesh screening. The report is to be given to Mr. Toomey. The new chairs were viewed, and additional furniture needs were discussed. VOTED: To accept Mr. Lovett's report for the Committee on By-Laws. VOTED: To accept Mrs. Bette Allen Walton's resignation, effective January 31, 1969, with regret and deep appreciation of her fine service. The Librarian reported that the Job Corp has requested placement of young people to work in the Library. They are to be paid from Federal funds at the rate of $1 .25 and $1.40 per hour. This is to be a training program and will mean some pressure on our regular staff. Miss Standley will again do a poetry hour in April. This year her program will be for children. She will do a second program if there is enough interest. Since several Trustees will be out of the State in February, the next meeting is to be held on March 20. Mrs. Luther was authorized to call a special meeting in February if the need arises. Meeting adjourned at 5:15 P.M. Florence A. Luther Clerk Letters of appreciation were to be sent by Mrs. Risley to the Beverly Garden Club and the Friendly Garden Club for the flowers donated each week throughout the year. Letters were also to be sent to Mrs. Thomas Brady and Mrs. Arthur Pollard for their volunteer services at the Farms Branch
