1968-19-09 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 09/19/1968 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Louisa V. Conrad, Diane M. Isenberg, Robert W. Lovett, Mieth Maeser, Dr. Cornelius J. Murray, Barbara D. Risley, and Thomas J. Tooracy Board members absent: Albert J. Ricei, and Carolyn F. Startalley Others present: Recorder: Florence A. Luther September 19, 1968 4 P.M. The regular meeting was held at the Library on the above date. Present were Mrs. Conrad presiding, Mr. Maeser, Mrs. Isenberg, Mrs. Risley, Dr. Murray, Mr. Toomey, and Mr. Lovett. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Reports of Librarian and Department Heads were placed on file. Financial sheet was carefully studied, and it was brought to the attention of the Board that the figures are short for State Aid Grant for 1969 After discussion, Mrs. Isenberg moved that the Mayor be requested to add $1,111.72 to the Maintenance budget to be used for books and related materials. Communication from Improved Mutual Risks Insurance recommending "an automatic fire detection system should be installed throughout the building .... the same to be connected into a Supervisory Alarm System so that instant transmission of fire will be provided through to central Fire Station headquarters" was referred to the Mayor, with a copy of reference to Mr. John Shaw. Mrs. Isenberg moved that Mrs. Patch's resignation be accepted with great regret. Resignation to take effect December 31, 1968. Mr. Toomey seconded. Discussion of applicants for her position, but no decision was made. Mrs. White, Branch Librarian, who is recovering from surgery, was granted six months' leave of absence from October 4 to April 4, 1969. Mr. Toomey moved. Mr. Maeser seconded. Without Pay. Mrs. Risley suggested open stacks be considered. Both she and Mrs. Isenberg feel that the public should be allowed in area now closed. There was considerable discussion. It was brought out that the stacks are so arranged that there is no way of supervising and to keep books in order would mean more stack pages. Mrs. Hutchins, now in Children's Room, is to be temporary head of Farms Branch during Mrs. White's absence. Mrs. Opal Honnold was hired at the rate of $2.65 per hour to assist where there are now vacancies. The rental of a copying machine was authorized. Antiques Club given permission to use the Yellow Room on Wednesday, October 16, 1998. Mr. Tooracy reported that plastering of walls will not be done this year and a Commission is to be appointed, and that Mr. Clemenzi's bill is to be paid. He also reported on the Custodian's contract.
