1968-06-13 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 06/13/1968 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Louisa V. Conrad, Diane M. Isenberg, Robert W. Lovett, Mieth Macset, Dr. Cornelius J. Murray, Albert J. Ricci, Barbara D. Risley, and Carolyn F. Standley Board members absent: Thomas J. Toomey Others present: Florence A. Luther Recorder: Marion A. Brown Thursday, June 13, 1968 4 P.M. In attendance at the above meeting were Mrs. Conrad, presiding, Miss StandIcy, Mrs. Risley, Mrs. Eisenberg, Mr. Maeser, Dr. Murray, Mr. Lovett and Mr. Rieci. (Mrs. Risley and Mrs. Eisenberg were appointed by Mayor Vitale to replace Mrs. Bryant and Mr. Bunker.) Mrs. Luther, newly appointed Librarian attended. The records of the previous meeting were approved as read. After study of the finance sheets they were approved and placed on file. In the absence of Mr. Toomey, Mrs. Conrad explained that the plaster work has been done by Clemenzi: upper hall and 4 walls in Y.P.R. As the money is not available the work was ordered stopped. The walls must be completed later. Long discussion was held. All reports were read and approved. VOTED to close at 6 o'clock July 3. Mrs. Conrad reported that Mrs. Sherrill of Farms Garden Club is going to plant yews at the Farms Library. Mrs. Luther stated that as yet there are no applicants for the position of Assistant Librarian. It was suggested that during her absence someone from the staff should be appointed. A long discussion took place as to the city wide salary increases that are being considered by the Mayor. Mrs. Conrad appointed Mr. Maeser to seek further information from Mayor Vitale. Mr. Tooracy also. Mrs. Conrad read a request for retirement from Mrs. Eva Patch to take effect Dec. 31. Miss Standley suggested that this item be tabled until the Sept. meeting. SO VOTED. A discussion was held as to the Tercentenary parties to take place: June 25-Hour of Poetry by Miss Stanley and June 27-Author's Tea Party. The feeling was that a program should go into the papers soon with the names of the Trustees and the names of all the authors invited. Mrs. Conrad explained that she has had complaints, as to how much better organized and much more pleasant the Farms Branch is, in the absence of the Librarian. A July meeting was suggested.
