Beverly Public Library
Board of Trustees Regular Meeting
March 17, 1977 7:45 p.m.
Present: Mr. Coogan, presiding; Mrs. Viiale, Mr. Loring, Mr. Ayers, Mr. Henderson and Miss
Moran.
Minutes of the February 17, 1977, regular meeting and March 10, 1977, special meeting were
approved.
Committee Reports:
Committee on Administration - no report
Committee on Finance - no report
Committee on Circulation - no report
Committee on Farms - no report
Committee on Bookmobile - no report
Librarian's report:
Circulation - Problem with young people continues and we have to make repeated calls to
police. Circulation figures very high.
A/V - Extensive re-cataloguing of record collection finished. Films continue to have high rate
of circulation. Need for record bins and up-dated of A/V job description mentioned.
Reference - Problems with young people, age 13-17 using library as "hang-out!'.
Children's Room - Saturday morning story hours popular.
Old Business:
Discussion on allocation of State Aid held over until next meeting.
New Business:
Leak in roof drain causing water to flow down wall in old Genealogy Room on top
floor. Mr. Viiianti, roofer, suggested we have Fire Department pump water down that drain.
Result of that indicated drain is clogged somewhere. Trustees suggested we contact Public
World Dept. to see if they can do the job before hiring someone to do the job.
Mr. Coogan to submit list of new committee assignments shortly - to be mailed out
before next meeting.
Mrs. Esther Calish, one of two candidates for Head Librarian's position, was present
and Miss Moran presented her and Personnel Committee report. After brief discussion, she
was asked to leave meeting while Trustees discussed her qualifications and Personnel
Committee report.
It was unanimously
VOTED: Report of Personnel Committee be accepted and that Mrs. Esther Calish
be appointed to position of Head Librarian at a salary according to presently
established Salary Scheduled* Her appointment to start May 2, 1977.

Mrs. Eleanor Scully, in evaluating the resumes of almost all applicants, and to all those who wrote
