Vitale Board members absent: Others present: Recorder: Mark A. Nesse Beverly Public Library Board of Trustees Regular Meeting November 20, 1975 7:30 P.M. Present: Mrs. Conrad, presiding; Mr. Ayers, Mr. Bronstein, Mrs. Isenberg, Mr. Larivee, Mr. Macset, Miss MeGart, Miss Moran and Mrs. Vitale. Observing from the League of Women Voters: Mrs. Wyman, Mrs. Black, Mrs, Finney and Mrs. Komich. In executive session, the Board of Trustees: VOTED: To accept the report of the Personnel Committee relative to the Head Librarian's Salary, and to request a change in the City of Beverly Ordinances as follows: 1. Change the title of the Head Librarian to "Director of Library Services". 2. Change the salary from grade 19 to grade 20 ($14,713.92 to $15,294.24). The Budget for fiscal year 1976-1977 was approved as presented by the Finance Committee with two exceptions: 1. Increase the salary account by $580.32 for the increase in the librarian's salary. 2. Show the $40,000 requested for a bookmobile below the total for all other items in the budget. The ten page budget justification put together by the staff will accompany the budget. The Librarian's report (highlights of departmental reports) was put on file. Old Business: *The proposed by-laws were considered, and some revisions made. Due to a 4-4 vote on the issue of "Chairman" vs. "Chairperson" final adoption was postponed until the December 18, 1975, meeting. VOTED: To allocate the $14,380.50 in state aid which was carded forward from fiscal year 1974-75 as follows: Books 11,000.00 Periodical 1,000.00 Audio-Visual 1,000.00 Book Preparation 1,380.50 Supplies 14,380.50 *Mrs. Conrad reported on the financial update of the 1970 Shaffer Building Program as supplied by architect Geoffrey T. Freeman of Shepley, Bulfinch, Richardson and Abbott (Boston): New Construction Area (Gross) 21,600 sq. t~. x $45 = $ 972,000.00 Renovation Area (Gross) 15,600 sq. ft. x $20 + + 312,000.00 Construction Cost $1,294,000.00 Furnishings 250,000.00 Fees (Architectural & Engineering) 115,000.00 Assume 9% Contingency 10% 129,400.00 Project Cost Forecast $1,788.400.00 This information will be supplied to the Mayor's office in response to the City's request for input into a city-wide capital improvements long-range plan. *The Librarian related that several linen items were lost while in the library's possession for a display during the Italian Festival week in early October. The library has reimbursed the owner $250 from trust funds. VOTED: To request the Mayor and Board of Aldermen that microfilm copies of early Beverly documents currently housed in the Bay Bank vault be transferred to the library so that they may be put to use by researchers.
