Conrad, Lester C. Ayers, Richard J. Bronstein, Robert W. Lovett, Mieth Maeser, Barbara D. Risley, Carolyn F. StandIcy, and Samuel E. Tappan Board members absent: Diane M. Isenberg Others present: Recorder: Mark A. Nesse Beverly Public Library Board of Trustees Meeting January 17, 1974 Present: Mrs. Conrad, Presiding; Mr. Ayers, Mr. Bronstein, Mr. Lovett, Mr. Macset, Mrs. Risley, Miss Standley and Mr. Tappan. Minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Committee Reports: Finance There was a discussion regarding the unexpended balance from "other outlays" which has been carded over from years past. Mrs. Conrad hoped that this money might-be spent in some way related to its original purpose. Librarian noted that he had, on behalf of the Board, discussed with Mayor Grimes last September the Board's intention to request in the spring that the money be transferred to the Maintenance budget. Circulation Farms Bookmobile Personnel Administration Mrs. Conrad read the annual report to the Mayor and Aldermen and solicited suggestions. Librarian read highlights of departmental annual reports. Old Business: Carpet installed in main library. Sunday opening to begin February 3, 1974. Very good response to Friends of the Library mailing, including many excellent suggestions and samples of by-laws. Other old business: Miss Scotti resigned effective December 14, 1973. Mrs. Penta has been serving as acting head of circulation. VOTED: To appoint Mrs. Penta as Provisional Head of circulation. VOTED: To authorize the Librarian to select and recommend to the Board for appointment an A/V department head and a cataloger. Mrs. Stevens has returned to work after an extended illness. Change in the interpretation of the term "circulation" will possibly result in lower circulation figures. Decision to change borrowing policy to conform to guidelines set forth by the Bureau of Library Extension. Borrowing privileges extended to all residents of the Commonwealth upon proper registration. Out-of-state students and "transients" to continue to pay $10.00 deposit. Librarian called Board's attention to recently printed A/V pamphlets and Children's Room letter to teachers.
