Thursday, February 15, 1973 4 P.M.
The regular meeting was held at the Library on the above date. Present were Mrs. Risley,
presiding, Mr. Lovett, Miss Standley, Mr. Ayers, Mr. Bronstein and Mr. Tappan.
The minutes of the last meeting read and approved.
Reports of sub-committees and Heads of departments read and approved.
Administration:
VOTED: to accept recommendation of Personnel Committee that Miss Susan Kincade be
appointed to Grade 6 as assistant in the Children's Room, and Mrs. Dorothy Congdon to
Grade 5 as assistant at the main desk.
Mr. Ayers pointed out the advisability of advertising all positions, non-professional as well
as professional.
Advertisements are being placed for Head Librarian, with the Massachusetts Division of
Library Extension, LIBRARY JOURNAL, and Eastern Regional NEWSLETTER. Closing date for
applications on or before May 15.
VOTED: to defer organization to March meeting.
Old Business:
Revenue Sharing discussed and it appears there are no library funds available at this time.
Change In Minimum Standards and the hearing in Auburn were discussed. Questions of
accountability, compensation and additional state tax were raised.
VOTED: Beverly will not change its present inter-library loan or non-resident fee policies at the
present. It was voted, however, that the program was not without merit provided there
were satisfactory safeguards.
New Business:
VOTED: to support House Bill 2024 with letter going to Senator Mendonca, House
Chairman John J. MeGlynn, with copies to Reps. Bussone, Hatch and Harrington.
Brought to attention of Board was the student action to open the High School Library on
Tuesday and Thursday nights and Sunday afternoons. Also, the anticipated request for term paper
material to be transferred from this library to the High School Library. The matter was tabled.
Tea for Miss Munroe to be at 4 P.M. on Wednesday, March A.
Communications:
From Mrs. Kay Fanning in appreciation of resolution and memorial gifts in memory of her
father, Dr. Cornelius Murray.
From Dr. Hugh C. Porter, Asst. Supt. of Schools, expressing thanks for opening doors of
library to Hardie School children on January 18, the day of school fire.
From City Clerk, meters to be put in front of bldg.
