1971-09-16 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 09/16/1971 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Louisa V. Conrad, Diane M. Isenberg, Robert W. Lovett, Mieth Maeser, Dr. Cornelius J. Murray, Albert J. Ricci, Barbara D. Risley, and Carolyn F. Standley Board members absent: Howard W. Cole Others present: Recorder: Florence A. Luther Thursday, September 16, 1971 The regular meeting was held at the Library on the above date. Present were Mrs. Conrad, Mr. Ricci Miss StandIcy, Mr. Maeser, Mr. Lovett, Dr. Murray, Mrs. Risley and Mrs. Isenberg. Minutes of the last meeting read and approved. Administrations: Mr. Maeser reported steps at Farms Library completed, Y.P. tables topped with Formica and ten screens purchased for reading room. Painting of outside trim is to start in October. Entrance foyer of main library in process of being painted. Boiler repairs also in process. The estimate for air-conditioning the top floor was $2,575.00. (Stewart & Prince Co.) Financial sheets studied. Reports of Heads of Departments read. Correspondences: Letter of resignation from Mrs. Alan Cook, Y. A. Librarian. Request for eight-months' leave of absence from Miss Darlene Scotti. Applications for Y.A Librarian from Mr. Thomas Scully and Mrs. Martha Hutchins and Mrs. Claire Bancroft. Application for staff position from Miss M. Pauline Lavoie. Old Business: VOTED: League of Women Voters' report be held over to October meeting and that ample time be allotted to discuss same. New Business: Budget Committee to meet at 9 A.M. on October 21. Mr. Ricci added to Committee. In executive session qualifications of applicants for positions were discussed. VOTED: Mrs. Claire Bancrot't was appointed to Y.A Librarian position with a six-month probation period. (M. L. A. from University of Rhode Island). (Polley, State and Federal standards considered) Miss Scotti's request for the extended leave be denied, and the Librarian authorized to hire Miss Lavoie should Miss Scotti denied to resign.
