1971-02-25 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 02/25/1971 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Howard W. Cole, Diane M. Isenberg, Robert W. Lovett, Mieth Maeser, Dr. Cornelius J. Murray, Barbara D. Risley, and Carolyn F. Standley Board members absent: Louisa V. Conrad, and Albert J. Ricci Others present: Recorder: Florence A. Luther Thursday, February 25, 1971 4 P.M. The regular meeting was held at the Library on the above date. Present were Mrs. Risley, presiding, Mr. Maeser, Dr. Murray, Mr. Cole, Miss StandIcy, Mr. Lovett and Mrs. Isenberg. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Administration: Mr. Maeser reported on work in process in Main Reading Room. City painters have agreed to paint all woodwork. Since cost of all paint and electrical work will be beyond the Other Outlay budget, it was voted to pay balance from Maintenance. Anticipated figure is $415.00. Trust funds were discussed. Mr. Cole suggested that consideration be given to requesting Board of Aldermen for representation on Commission of Trust Funds in order that the library have benefit to meet the increasing cost of the enlarged facility. Mr. Cole suggested Trade School be contacted to service bookmobile. Financial sheet presented. Reports of Department heads presented. Bookmobile had minor accident involving car driven by Mrs. Lois Clarke, 37 Ocean Street - crease in left rear fender. Communications: Mr. Beaulieu stated that custodians to be provided rain wear. Dr. Francis J. McCarthy certified Mrs. McGorrill's return to work on February 16. Old Business: Lengthy discussion of parking situation. Parking meters, pleading notes and letters to College were suggestions. Mr. Cole proposed an amendment to original agreement with City. Before further action, Mr. Maeser will again contact police department. Purchase of the Book Return deposit was considered but tabled awaiting action on parking. Mr. Cole requested opinion of staff on advantages and disadvantages of locating such a deposit for patrons' convenience. New Business: Mr. Maeser will visit Farms Library concerning doors and to check with custodian. Lack of a fire escape for building has been brought to attention of Building Inspector. Miss Standley is seeking more information on Bill S447 - an act establishing a division of libraries and educational media. Dr. Murray and Miss Standley considering attending hearing on Mar. 15.
