1966-10-20 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 10/20/1966 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Louisa V. Conrad, Frank P. Hyde, Robert W. Lovett, Carolyn F. StandIcy, and Thomas J. Toomey Board members absent: Anne P. Bryant, Mieth Maeser, Dr. Cornelius J. Murray, and Frederick H. Pierce Others present: Recorder: Marion A. Brown Thursday, Oct. 20, 1966 4 P.M. The regular meeting of the Trustees was held on the above date. In attendance were Mrs. Conrad, presiding, Miss StandIcy, Mr. Toomey, Mr. Hyde and Mr. Lovett. The records were approved as read; Librarian's reports and the Circulation reports were accepted and placed on file. VOTED TO ACCEPT THE Budget as presented by the Budget Committee, subject to changes in salaries because of the Yarger Survey. VOTED to request special appropriation of $306.84 for NEW increased Boiler Insurance, that has just been introduced by the City, After a long discussion of custodians, VOTED to estimate $2,340.20 br. week at $45 per week for a part-time custodian at the Farms Branch. VOTED that a letter of protest from the Trustees to the President of North Shore Community College concerning the violation of parking by the students. Many complaints from the public as well as a great decrease in circulation has been caused, because of this situation. VOTED to accept Miss Christina Carleton, after six months probation, on the permanent Staff. She has proven most satisfactory and intends to fiather her education to procure a library degree. VOTED until the first of the year, because of Yarger Survey, to table the position of Reference Librarian. VOTED TO close Saturday, Nov. 12 for a long Nov. 11 weekend. Also close Thanksgiving Day Eve at 6 o'clock. Due to the nine o'clock closing which must eventually take place, because of the changes in the Revised Minimum Standards adopted by The Board of Library Commissioners-VOTED that this take effect September of 1967. The reason for this is that the Library has accepted State Aid. Necessary page help, additional heat and lighting must be considered. At the beginning of 1967 it was agreed that the pages should start at a $1.00 per hour and Adults receive $1.75. Mrs. Conrad agreed to attend a meeting the evening of Oct. 25 concerning beautifying Beverly Common. This is being considered by the Parks Commission under the direction of Ch. Paul S. Callahart.
