1966-09-22 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 09/22/1966 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Louisa V. Conrad, Robert W. Lovett, Dr. Cornelius J. Murray, Frederick H. Pierce, Carolyn F. StandIcy, and Thomas J. Tooracy Board members absent: Anne P. Bryant, Frank P. Hyde, and Mieth Maeser Others present: Recorder: Marion A. Brown THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 12, 1966 4 P.M. Present at the meeting of the Trustees held at the Library on the above date were Mrs. Conrad, presiding, Mr. Pierce, Mr. Toomey, Mr. Lovett, Miss Standley and Dr. Murray. Records were approved as read as were the Finance Sheets. Mr. Toomey, for Administration reported that the Iron Work was completed at the Main Library and the Farms Library iron work is to be done soon. The $500 appropriation is to kept for future use if possible. Also reported by Mr. Toomey was the pointing of the front steps of the Main Library. As they were originally set in concrete they ran into much difficulty, thus the cost was much more. Discussion took place of the dome light on the top floor and long discussion ofbookmobile garage for winter. Also, discussion of parking problems: Community College. It will be adjusted at an early date. VOTED: Friendly Garden Club and Beverly Municipal Credit Union the use of Meeting Room Oct. 25 and Nov. 15. Reports of Librarian and Department Heals were approved as read. The resignation of Mrs. Cynthia Symonds, Reference Librarian, was read and accepted. She has accepted the position of Beverly High School Librarian, with shorter hours and more pay. Applications for this position were read and tabled. Mrs. Dunklee, Ref. Asst. and an outsider were considered. Yarger Associates Survey: Salary increase will be presented to the Mayor and Aldermen, for approval in the near future. Mrs. Luther explained in detail as to this project. After long discussion it was VOTED to appeal to the Yarger Associates. A letter was sent to them stating that hearing would be appreciated concerning the position of Special Services Librarian and the Asst. Head of Circulation. Mr. Lovett and Mr. Toomey to represent the Board of Trustees. A Budget Meeting was to set for Oct. 20 at 3:30; Mr. Pierce, Ch., Mr. Tooracy, Mr. Maeser and Mrs. Conrad. Adjourned 5:30 Marion A. Brown Clerk. (A meeting was held with Yarger Associates Rep., Mr. Paul Rahehenuk, Monday Oct. 3, 7:30 - 8:30. Mr. Lovett and Mr. Toomey were present, with Mrs. Luther and Mrs. Brown. Corrections as to Special Services, and Asst. to Head of Circulation were presented and it appeared that positions and salaries were to he further studied.
