1965-09-16 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 09/16/1965 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Louisa V. Conrad, Edward M. Doherty, Frank P. Hyde, Mieth Maeser, Frederick H. Pierce, Carolyn F. Standley, and Thomas J. Toomey Board members absent: Anne P. Bryant, and Dr. Cornelius J. Murray Others present: Recorder: Marion A. Brown Thursday, Sept. 16, 1965 4 P.M. The regular meeting of the Trustees was held at the Library on the above date. Attending were Mrs. Conrad, presiding, Miss Standley, Mr. Maeser, Mr. Hyde, Mr. Toomey, Mr. Pierce and Mr. Doherty. The records of the June meeting were read and approved. The Finance sheets were discussed and approved. The City granted the request for $923 for books to be added to the State Aid grant of $9027. Also granted was $1000 for a new electrical board for the Farms Branch, a very necessary project as it had become dangerous. Mr. Toomey reported for Administration, that the City Electrician will start very soon on this electrical work. Also, reported that the Moore Construction Co. will correct a poor job of water-proofing the Farms Branch, The new custodian, William Green, a C.S. appointee, replacing Robert Hanson was discussed. Mr. Toomey met with both Mr. Green and Mr. Freyman to settle work and hours. The poor condition of the iron work at both Main and Farms was discussed. Arthur Balser Co. of Salem gave an estimate of $255 for the Main Library and $85 for Branch. VOTED to do this necessary work. Painting of this iron work and especially the fire escape to be done by City Maintenance or part by custodians. Mr. Toomey discussed with the Police Dept. the parking problem in front of the Main Library. The Traffic Division will try for 30 days one hour parking, restricted in front of the Library. VOTED use of small down stairs hall for Annual Meeting of Beverly Municipal Credit Union, Tues. Nov. 16--7:30 P.M. A discussion of salary increase for Librarian to go along with other Dept. Heads, was discussed. It was leR for Mrs. Bryant and Mrs. Conrad to attend to this item~ A letter was read from Miss Kline, Asst. Librarian stating that her Doctor has ordered her to work only part time until Jan. 1, 1966, due to health reasons. All were in favor. In absence of the Librarian and Asst. Librarian, Mrs. Luther, Cataloger will be in charge. It was explained that Mr. White, Bookmobile Librarian has resigned to go back to college. Continued effort will be made to replace this position. A Budget meeting was decided on for Oct. 19 4:15. Mr. Pierce, Mr. Toomey, Mr. Maeser and Mrs. Conrad, Budget Committee. Adjourned 5:15 Marion A. Brown Clerk I
