BOARD OF HEALTH - MONTHLY MEETING - MAY 6, 1968
Meeting called to order at 6:00 p.m. Members present were Angelo Massa and A. J.
Callahan, Jr. Also attending were Thomas Scanlan, Robert Russo, Joseph W. Walsh,
Jr. and Leo Panunzio.
OLD BUSINESS
15 Pleasant Street
It was reported to the Board that the house at 15 Pleasant Street was vacated
last weekend by the tenant as per our order of March 3, 1968. The new owner will
be completely remodeling the interior and exterior.
In the future, all houses vacated by order of this Board will be placarded as per
order of the Beverly Board of Health.
Kelleher Pond
The Board of Health has requested the results of chemical analysis from both
State and private labs, along with our weekly testing results.
After reviewing all the test results, the Board will have a letter of progress
sent to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen. In addition, the Board has requested a
check of possible pollution at Norwood Pond.
16 Bennett Street
The Board instructed Mr. Scanlan and Mr. Walsh to check legal procedures with the
Clerk of Courts regarding 16 Bennett Street, i.e., letters to be sent to Mrs.
Sawyer, placarding, etc., and to make a report to the Board.
The Board of Health also requested Mr. Whitaker to ask the State Building
Inspector for an opinion regarding 16 Bennett Street.
The Board of Health instructed Mr. Scanlan and Mr. Walsh to take new pictures of
the house, and to have the Fire and Electrical Departments inspect the house.
State-Wide Census
Mr. Scanlan informed the Board of Health that the new baby follow-up, which was
started last month, will net the city approximately $1,000.00 this year at $5.00
per visit by the public health nurses.
The Board accepted this report as informative.
NEW BUSINESS
Preston Place
The Board tabled any action on this item until formal request is made to the
Board of Health.
46 Trask Street
The Board received a request from owners of 46 Trask Street, which abuts a swamp
for help regarding a mosquito problem.
The Board instructed Mr. Scanlan to send a letter to the Essex County Mosquito
Control to spray the area.
Elizabeth Scoqlio
The Board wished the minutes of this meeting to note that Mrs. Scoglio a Public
Health Nurse for this department did an excellent job at the Beverly School for
the Deaf on Friday, May 3rd, giving up her afternoon off.
Her thorough follow-up is a credit to the department.
Monthly Reports
The monthly reports-of the various staff me~oers were accepted as read.
Eastern Contract Disposal
Mr. Scanlan told the Board that he has warned Eastern Contract Disposal about
exceptionally early collections (4:00 a.m.).
The Board accepted this-report as informative.
Rabies Clinic
The annual Rabies Clinic will be held on May 8, 1968.
