A Special Meeting was called by Mrs. Conrad to clarify a letter she bad received from Mr. Barman,
Special Services Librarian.
Present were Mrs. Conrad, Miss Standley, Mr. Maeser, Mr. Pierce, Mr. Toomey and Mr. Brown.
Mr. Barman stated, in his letter that he was shocked because the Lib~ had informed him that his
termination of service would be effective Sept. 5 because oflack ofmoney. He had expected to have
2 weeks in Army Service, 2 weeks working and take his vacation pay as or Sept. 5-19. After he had
stopped work Aug. 6, he was given 2 weeks Army Service with pay and 2 weeks vacation with pay.
It was explained that there was just not enough money to pay someone to fill in for him after Sept.
5. His Service had to be covered and his vacation also.
VOTED: Mrs. Conrad answer his letter stating that it was a unanimous vote ofthe Board to take him
offthe payroll and terminate his pay as of Sept. 5, 1964.
Mr. Toomey read two letters to the Mayor and to all Aidemen stating that the old bookmobile would
be transferred to the Public Works Dept. for $700. This request to go to the Mayor and all Aldermen.
As the bookmobile was purchased from unrestricted Trust Funds this $700 should be transferred to
Library Appropriation; Furniture Outlays. The mount allotted on the budget was not large enough
to complete the furnishing ofthe top floor Reference Room and Young Adults' Room. VOTED to
send letters for this request.
