1964-06-30 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 06/30/1964 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Louisa V. Conrad, Anne P. Bryant, Edward M. Doherty, Mieth Maeser, Frederick H. Pierce, Carolyn F. StandIcy, and Thomas J. Tooracy Board members absent: Russell P. Brown, and Frank P. Hyde Others present: R~order: Marion A. Brown SPECIAL MEETING -Tues. June 30, 1964 4:30 P.M. PURPOSE: To complete purchase and discuss other factors of new Gerstenslager Bookmobile. Present: - Mrs. Conrad, Mrs. Bryant, Miss StandIcy, Mr. Toomey, Mr. Maeser, Mr. Pieme and Mr. Doherty. Mrs. Conrad explained as to her call from Mr. Richard Scherer who insisted that a certified check for $6000 must go to McGraw-Hill by July 15 and must not be handled by Mr. Lyons. However after Mr. Toomey had talked with Mr. Lyons and McGraw-Hill it was pointed out that Mr. Scherer had no right to interfere and Mr. Lyons had been appointed agent for McGraw-Hill. Mr. Toomey explained that the new unit has had a motor tune-up, new battery and $100 was deducted from the $6000 for a new, needed clutch. Thus a check a will go out from the City of Beverly for $5900. The unit will be at Foster Ford for one week for clutch and new battery, go to Miratie Paint and Body Co., Water St., for entire paint job (aqua-same color as old unit.) Estimated cost of painting would be $175, however because of extra work the final figure was $225. Lettering and seal to be done by Mr. DeMers for $80. Mr. Toorney thought that the City Electrician was interested in buying it for around $700. As to financing this new unit. A check from the Beverly National Bank for $4569.84 principal and interest was given to the City Treasurer through the Mayor and Bd. of Aldermen, by Burton Phillips, Bank Pres. This money came from Beverly Rotary Club, Flint Fund and Brower Fund and some small donations. The remainder $1330.16, to come from unrestricted trust fund income, thus after transfer from Beverly National Bank to City Treasurer a check went to McGraw-Hill for $5900 and a Bill of Sale was returned to Library from McGraw-Hill. VOTED to buy a power lawn mower from Mr. George Smith for $30.00. VOTED to close Friday before July 4th at 5 o'clock. Adjourned 5:45 Marion A. Brown Clerk Mr. Barman resigned at this meeting because of his desire to study for the ministry. A letter of resignation was read form him and a letter sent to him of regret.
