BOARD OF HEALTH - MONTHLY MEETING - Amril 8, 1968
Meeting called to order at 6:00 p.m. Members present were Dr. Jacob
H. Fine, Chairman; A.J. Callaban, Jr. and Angelo R. Massa. Also
attending were Thomas H. Scanlan, Director; Robert Russo, Plumbing
Inspector; and Joseph W. Walsh, Jr., Sanitarian.
State Wide Census
The Board was told that the Public Health Nurses are going to take
part in a state wide census to determine follow-up of immunization
of new born babies. Our quota for follow-ups will not exceed 200
for the year. The city will be reimbursed at the rate of $5.00 per
follow-up.
The Board accepted this-report as informative.
Immunization Schedule
The immunization schedule for Beverly is as follows:
4/8 High School seniors,
4/9 Pre-school Clinic
4/17 Elementary, grades

GarbaGe Contracts
The garbage contracts were discussed and it was noted that only one
bond was returned to the Board thus far. Mr. Scanlan read a letter
sent to the contractors with regard to bonding, and they were asked
to submit daily work schedules as to streets being done and day of
the week they were being collected.
The Board accepted this report as informative.
Kelleher Pond
Kelleher Pond water samples were discussed by the Board. Bacteria
counts were low.
The Board accepted this report as informational.
Dump Status
The starting date for the piping of the brook was discussed, and
the role of public works. Note: water samples showed high iron.
Milk and Food InsDector
Mr Panunzio to start on 4/15/68 as Milk and Food Inspector for the
City of Beverly.
16 Bennett Street
Mrs. Sawyer submitted an estimated bill of $3,500.00 from Mr.
Soucey of Salem, Massachusetts. The Board called Mr. Whitaker,
Building Inspector, who asked for an inspection tour with Mr.
Soucey, Mr. Russo, Mrs. Sawyer, and Mr. Walsh. Dr. Fine stressed
that the house had to repaired to the satisfaction of the Building
Inspector.
Dr. Fine wanted a mutual understanding between all parties involved
as to the cost of repairing the house. The bank did not want to
come down and inspect the house at this time and this was noted by
Mr. Walsh who had talked with Mr. Conlin of the North Avenue
Savings Bank. Also, Mr. Russo had spoken with Homes, Inc. and they
did not want any part of the house problem.
Final disposition was held over to the next meeting.
NEW BUSINESS
Funeral Director's Licenses
The Board members signed the Funeral Directors' Licenses for the
year May 1, 1968 - April 30, 1969.
