1964-06-11 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 06/11/1964 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Louisa V. Conrad, Russell P. Brown, Anne P. Bryant, Edward M. Doherty, Frank P. Hyde, and Thomas J. Tooracy Board members absent: Mieth Maeser, Frederick H. Pierce, and Carolyn F. Standley Others present: Recorder: Marion A. Brown Thursday, June 11, 1964 4 P .M. The purpose of this earlier Trustees' meeting is to settle the purchase of the Gerstenslager bookmobile. Present were Mrs. Conrad, presiding, Mrs. Bryant, Mr. Hyde, Mr. Toomey, Mr. Doherty and Mr. Brown. Mr. Philip Olson invited guest was also present. After much discussion as to the $4500 plus $80 interest, available toward the $6000, price of the new bookmobile, a suggestion was made that a possible added gift ($500) might come from the Beverly Rotary Club to assist toward the purchase of the new bookmobile. Mr. Olson, Mr. Brown and Mr. Hyde will contact Rotary Club officers VOTED the remainder and the new paint job would come from Trust Funds unrestricted income. VOTED on Mr. Brown's motion that the Trustees purchase bookmobile from McGraw-Hill Book Co. for $6000, and send confirmation of purchase to McGraw-Hill, attemion of Mr. Frank Swartz, Floor 20 330 West 42nd St., New York. July 15 is the final date. The records of the previous meeting were approved as read and the finance sheets were accepted and placed on file. For administration a short discussion was held concerning the completed lighting in the upstairs area of the Main Library. Mr. Toomey explained that the water proofing of the Farms Library all bids were rejected as they were far too higk New bids must be submitted for the North and East side only. Mr. Brown made the motion and so VOTED to advertise for bids for the North and East sides of the Farms Branch. Slight difficulty of stops for carts in the elevator will be attended to by Mr. Toomey. Reports of Library Heads and Librarian, as well as proposed changes for upstairs were discussed and placed on file. As the Division of Civil Service sent a letter concerning titles of positions of Beverly Public Library personnel which to them seem subject to the operation of the Civil Service law and rules, it was suggested to wait for further information. As Miss Ruth Lovett who has been doing Hospital service since 1952, must resign, it was suggested that a letter of regret and appreciation be sent to her. VOTED the use of Beverly Farms Hall for the July 4th children's celebration. Regional Public Library Service was discussed. At Mr. Doherty's suggestion it was decided to wait for more information before signing any form. By-laws were lef~ for the Sept. meeting.
