1964-03-19 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 03/19/1964 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members pant: Louisa V. Conrad, Russell P. Brown, Anne P. Bryant, Edward M. Doherty, Frank P. Hyde, Mieth Macset, Frederick H. Pierce, and Carolyn F. Standley Board members absent: Thomas J. Toomey Others present: Recorder: Marion A~ Brown Thursday 19 March 1964 4 P. M. The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was hem at the Library on the above date. All Trustees were present except Mr. Tooracy. After final inspection of renovations with Mr. Bourne, the meeting was called to order by the Chairman, Mrs. Conrad. It was moved to proceed with the organization ofthe Board. By ballot Mrs. Conrad was unanimously reelected Chairman and Mrs. Bryant reelected Secretary. Committees will be appointed soon. Records of the previous meeting were approved as read. The budget bad not been returned by the City. Finance sheets were studied and placed on file. For Administration, a letter of Fire inspection was read from Cpt. Eastwood, recommending a self-closing shutter for metal louver for boiler room. In 1962 a $50 wooden louver was replaced in 1963 by a $136 metal louver. A motion was made and VOTED to table this item. Librarians reports and circulation reports were read and approved. Mr. Maeser presented for consideration, graphs of Annual expenses, Circulation, Salaries, etc. The Board felt that they are excellent and expressed many thanks. These would be used in the 1963 Annual Reports. A letter was read from Civil Service concerning our error in stating, that we have a Senior Building Custodian. After letter after letter from Civil Service stating that exams must be taken, etc. it was moved and VOTED to put this letter in the hands of Mr. Scardon, liaison officer for Civil Service to straighten this matter out. (Mr. ScanIon stated that a letter must go to Civil Service saying that Mr. Freyman is not over the other janitor and gives no orders in any way.) VOTED the use of the Farms Hall to Beverly Farms-Prides Crossing Assoc. for their Annual Meeting. VOTED because of National Library Week being April 12 - 18, to hold the next meeting on April 23. Discussion of item in Beverly Times as to the budget cut of $9,950 by Mayor it was lef~ for Mr. Brown to check this matter. Adjourned 5:30 Marion A. Brown Clerk
