To His Honor Mr. Wickers and the Board of Aldermen:
The Board of Trustees of the Beverly Public Library views with great concem a proposal to convert
the Beverly Common into a large playground and municipal recreation cemer. It is the feeling of the
Board that the Common should remain as the original deed specifies. It is felt that the creation of such
a facility would not be in keeping with this section of Beverly. Also, the site of the Beverly Public
Library was especially chosen to relate with the open sweep of the Common. At a meeting of the
Board held March 21, 1963, it was unanimously voted to go on record to this effect.
