1968-03-07City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Board of Health Subcommittee: Date: March 7, 1968 Place: Board members present: A. Joseph Callahan, Jr., and Angelo R. Massa Board members absent: Dr. Jacob H. Fine, chair Others present: Thomas Scanlan, Director of Public Health, Robert Pusso, Plumbing Inspector; and Joseph W. Walsh, Jr., Sanitarian Recorder: Joseph W. Walsh, Jr. BOARD OF HEALTH - RECESSED MEETING - MARCH 7, 1968 The recessed meeting of March 4, 1968 was called to order at 5:45 p.m. Memmbers present were A. J. Callahan, Jr. and Angelo Massa Also attending were Thomas H. Scanlan, Director; Joseph W. Walsh, Jr., Sanitarian; and Robert Russo, Plurabing Inspector. Garbage Bids Anibal Teixeira & Son, lowest bidder on District 1 were before the Board to answer the following questions: Q. Do you have a contract now? A. No Q. Did you ever have a contract with any city or town? A. No Q. Have you a truck that conforms with regulations? A. 1968 Chevrolet 3/4 ton truck - will get larger one if they receive Beverly contract. Q. Can you get a performance bond? A. Yes, (Mr. Domingos will back). Q. Do you cook your garbage? A. Yes, 2 oil barrels. They will buy steamer and do proper job if contract is given to them. Q. How many pigs do you own? A. 160 Q. What time will you collect in Beverly? A. 7:00 a.m. until finished. Q. How about the draft, regarding your son? A. Every six months he gets farm deferment. Mr. Teixeira was thanked by the Board for attending the meeting and told he would be informed of Board's decision tomorrow (3/8/68). The Board discussed Mr. Teixeira's operation and approved said operation providing he can get the proper bond. Should Mr. Teixeira be unable to get bonding, the district will go to the next lowest bidder, Eastern Contract Disposal of Rowley. Inspector of Piggeries William Creed (1-462-2713) was asked by the Board to inspect the piggery owned by Mr. Teixeira. Tolvanen Request The premature Tolvanen baby was born 4/9/67 and discharged from the hospital 5/17/67 with total bills of $1,035.77. The Board of Health on a motion duly made and seconded voted to pay $700.00 of the bill leaving Mr. Tolvanen to pay Beverly Hospital $335.77. Hospital to arrange payments. 16 Bennett Street The Board of Health read a letter from the Building Inspector regarding this matter. The Board also read a letter from Mayor Vitale who wants an answer in three days. The Board of Health on a motion duly made and seconded voted to have the house at 16 Bennett Street, Beverly vacated. The Board instructed Mr. Scanlan to write letters to all parties involved notifying them of the Board's decision. 15 Pleasant Street The Board of Health on a motion duly made and seconded voted to have the house at 15 Pleasant Street vacated. Mr. Scanlan was instructed to write the appropriate letters with copies being sent to the Building Inspector and Fire Department. Births Mrs. Turenne and Mrs. Scoglio were instructed to follow-up births in 1968 for shots for children's immunizations. This is a State financed program with the City of Beverly being re-imbursed at $5.00 per visit for up to 200 home visits. Meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m. Respectfully submitted, FOR: Thomas H.
