Thursday, Oct. 18, 1962 4 P.M.
The regular meeting of the Trustees was held at the L~rary on the above date. Present were Mrs.
Conrad, Mr. Lancaster, Mrs. Bryant, Mr. Hyde, Mr. Tooracy and Mr. Brown.
The records of the last meeting were approved as read. On presentation of the Finance sheets which
were studied at length, a long discussion was held concerning the budget and especially the page
money. At the last meeting $1300 for pages was requested from the City to finish the year. The
Mayor refused to go alongwith this request, hence drastic cuts were made in hours, and during the
month of Sept. and part of Oct. there was sickness of the pages and they had a very heavy study
schedule, the Staff was forced to operate with little help, thus neglecting much of the daily necessary
chores. It was explained that with the bare minimum of page use, we must have $239.46 to finish the
year. This small amount will not take care of any illness in the next three months, necessary reading
of the book shelves, keeping the Youth Room open and processing the books that were purchased
under state aid; these books are waiting for pages to work on them. In order to catch up on all this
work, there should he another mount of $240 appropriated, so that during the coming school
vacations the pages could be used. It was decided that Mr. Brown, Mr. Toomey Mrs. Conrad and
the Librarian meet with the Mayor in the very near future.
President Phillip Olson of the Rotary Club came to this meeting to discuss publicity of the new desk.
It was decided to have a formal presentation and dedication ofthe lovely new desk, gift of the Rotary
Club, to he held Fri. Oct. 19 at 5:30. Pictures will be taken by the Beverly Times and the event
publicized.
Mrs. Conrad read a letter from Mr. Austin Griffin, N. E. Tel. & Tel. Co. Consultant, explaining the
installation of two - 8 conductor jacks at $15 each. Motion was made and SO VOTED to have these
installed.
For Admim'stration, Mr. Tooracy explained that the added amount of $5238.28 needed for the Farms
roof had been appropriated by the Mayor. He also stated that the door at the Farms is in very bad
condition and must have attention very soon. It was felt that this would have to wait for the 1963
budget.
After discussion of the American Legion plaque, it was left for Mrs. Bryant to attend to this matter.
Mrs. Bryant explained that no requests had been made for evening hours at the Farms Branch, and
felt it unwise to return to Wednesday evening opening. The hours will remain Mon. - Fri. 10 - 6; Sat.
9 -12.
