1962-09-20 City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 09/20/1962 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Louisa V. Conrad, Frank P. Hyde, Bruce Lancaster, Frederick H. Pierce, and Carolyn F. Standley Board members absent: Russell P. Brown, Anne P. Bryant, Saul J. Cagan, and Thomas J. Toomey Others present: Recorder: Marion A. Brown September 20, 1962 4 P.M. The regular meeting was held at the Library in the above date. Those in attendance were Mrs. Conrad, presiding, Miss Standley, Mr. Lancaster, Mr. Hyde and Mr. Pierce. The records of the last meeting were approved as read. After long discussion and study of budget sheets, they were accepted. It was explained that if we stay within the overall budget we cannot function. There is an added sum to he used for four charging machine rentals, supplies for two libraries and bookmobile; supplies for mending 4000 books and processing 5000 books. Because of the high increase in the book budget it shows that it will take more money to process books. Then, also the Page money must be increased due to more business, more work to be done, sickness, vacations, summer school. All these facts prove that it is quite justified that $1300 is imperative to continue for the rest ofthe year. Mr. Hyde made the motion and SO VOTED: to Request the Mayor for an additional $500 for page money because of added work, sickness, vacations and increase in circulation. Miss Standley made the motion and SO VOTED to transfer $800 from Account, Maintenance-Books to account Salaries and wages. This is imperative to take care of processing and repairing the increased book collection. For Administration, as Mr. Toomey was not present, Mrs. Conrad read letters and bills from Eagle Roofing Co., concerning Farms roof.. No action was taken at this meeting. VOTED the use of the ball to the Beverly Credit Union, Nov. 20. A letter of thanks was read from Mrs. Dunklee for being allowed to attend summer school at the Univ. of N.H. A request was read from Cadigan Post, Beverly Farms for the authority to remove the World War I plaque l~om the Farms Library so that it can be cleaned and polished. After discussion it was left for Mrs. Conrad and Mr. Toomey to take action. A discussion was held as to the hours at the Farms Branch. It was decided to take no action until the Oct. meeting. A discussion took place as to a private telephone. All felt it would be too expensive, however to consider plug-in phone for office and desk, this matter to be looked into. All agreed that the drafts made by Mr. Lancaster were very interesting and of great service. Many thanks were extended. The reports of the Department Heads and the Librarian were read and approved.
