MONTHLY MEETING - BOARD OF HEALTH - October 7, 1968
Meeting called to order at 6:00 p.m. Members present were Dr. J. H. Fine, Chairman; Angelo R.
Massa and A. J. Callahan, Jr. Also attending were Thomas Scanlan, Leo Panunzio, Richard Montoni,
Robert Russo, and Joseph Walsh.
OLD BUSINESS
West Lynn Creamery
The Board received a final report from Leo Panunzio about West Lynn Creamery. We have had no
problems with the counts for three consecutive months.
The Board accepted this report as final.
16 Bennett Street
Mr. Montoni spoke to the Board regarding 16 Bennett Street and reported that the house was
placarded. Mr. Sawyer is still waiting to hear from Mr. Soucey The building department will not issue
permit.
Mr. Walsh was instructed by the Board to go to Court and get a complaint regarding 16 Bennett
Street.
Nurse's Letter
After a review of a letter from the Public Health Nurses, the Board agreed that the nurses were
professionals and recommended that a letter be sent to the Board of Aldermen requesting that the
nurses be moved to a Grade 16 on the Yarger Plan. This motion passed unanimously.
NEW BUSINESS
Venetian Cafe
The Board of Health ordered that no food be served at the Venetian Cafe. They are currently in
process of cleaning the cellar due to the fact that it has been contaminated.
11 Charles Street
The Sanitarian and Public Health Nurses went to 11 Charles Street observe conditions and
environment that the Freeman children were living in at the request of the Briscoe Junior High School
principal.
The Board reviewed and discussed the Sanitarian's and Public Health Nurses' reports and tabled
further action feeling that it was the duty of the School Department to rectify this matter.
Cherry Hill Sewerage
Robert Russo brought before the Board plans for Cherry Hill Sewerage. The plans were approved
with the provisions set forth by the Plumbing Inspector.
536 Essex Street
The lot sub-division at 536 Essex Street was approved by the Board.
New Plumbing Fees
New plumbing fees were discussed by the Board and approveel as recommended by Mr. Russo. It was
noted that the fees are in line with neighboring cities.
Standley Street Dump
The Board heard complaints from the residents of the area near the Standley Street Dump presented
George Cavanaugh, 43 Cole Street, J. Lawless, 1 Thomas Road, R. Martin, 3 Thomas Road, and R.
Blanchette, StandIey Street.
All members were given a copy of an outline of the residents' views. After discussion of the situation
with Mayor Vitale and Public Works Commissioner Beaulieu, the Board of Health ordered a meeting
for Saturday, October 12, 1968 at 9:00 a.m. between the residents, the Mayor, Commissioner, Board
of Health and Aldermen from Wards 5 & 6.
Mr. Walsh was ordered to take samples of a stream near the dump site.
Meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
